In my opinion, AI music is advancing rapidly, but cannot catch up with human creativity. While AI enhances music creation, it is unlikely to completely replace human musicians and artists. Collaboration between AI and humans is a more possible future.

MMW, in the future, artists will license their 'data set' to AI Music Players, and get paid royalties for any AI generated content using their data.

So maybe you want to hear Michael Jackson doing an AC/DC style song with Oscar Peterson playing piano – no problem.

MMW slang
MMW is a slang term with multiple meanings. Here are some of the most common definitions:

Making Me Wet: This is one of the most popular meanings of MMW, used to express excitement or arousal.
Mark My Words: This definition is often used to emphasize the certainty of a statement or prediction.
Making of the Modern World: This term refers to a general education class at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
Medeski Martin and Wood: This is a jazz-funk fusion trio from Brooklyn, formed in 1991.
Mini Meet West: This is a term used in the context of automotive events or gatherings.
Mobile Malware: This definition refers to malicious software that targets mobile devices.
It’s worth noting that MMW can also be used as an abbreviation for other phrases or words, depending on the context and community using it.

For past artists with published songs before the year 2024, I think getting paid from your art used on AI is the logical next step.
But in the future how can artists provide proofs they are not AI trying to fake their humanity, but regular shy and introverted artists not in love of social media?
What am I saying? Even crazy in your face obnoxious forever on X people sharing their art with a webcam won't be enough to the world that they are real humans. We see what Sora can do now. How about in 2 years?

It is already happening in comics. Some long time (30+ years?) artist got their work for DC dropped because him sharing his original sketches in progress was not enough for the doubters and the publisher. Nothing he could say or do was enough. This lie, using AI, will follow him from now on.

Not following your pivot to comics - are folks able to use AI to generate comics that have the look/feel of existing artists?

I agree the future is in question, but the transition is likely predictable.

And FWIW, I used MMW in the second sense although I also appreciate some of the other meanings…. ;)

AI can generate the look and feel of all artists, dead or alive, of any style. And this is still 'first generation'.

Regarding the DC artist. The presumption of innocence does not exist on the web. Is he guilty or not guilty? I don't know, but a simple call from DC and file sharing of the work in progress could've been a good start, not based on one post on X.
The sad part is people are using AI detecting tools to find out if the artist used AI, an AI built upon the artist's art first.

So the machine is telling humans if they are real (artists) or not. People looking at a body of work automatically trust the AI, a free online tool, then cancel you in 30 min.

DC Pulls Controversial Content Suspected of Being Produced by Generative A.I.
PUBLISHED APR 22, 2024
DC has pulled three upcoming variant covers after allegations that the covers were produced with generative A.I.

In that context for a definition of MMW, as funny as it was when I read that, AI is telling you what is the best definition all the time, in all context. That's a pretty big deal because 99% of people trust the top results, most only the very first one. I have never read MMW used like that in anywhere, but for AI oh yeah trust me bro.

I don't know if shades will be needed for such a bright future. At that point we are all going to be blind.

The phrase “the future is so bright, I gotta wear shades” is a popular song title and lyric by the American rock band Timbuk3. The song was released in 1986 and became the band’s only significant mainstream hit. The lyrics of the song describe a bright and optimistic outlook on the future, with the protagonist looking forward to a successful career and a bright financial future.

In the song, the protagonist mentions studying nuclear science, having a job waiting after graduation, and earning a high salary. The lyrics also touch on the idea of having a “crazy teacher” and being a “peeping-tom techie with x-ray eyes,” which adds a touch of humor and whimsy to the song.

The song’s message is one of hope and optimism, encouraging listeners to look forward to a bright and promising future.

Thought I'd check out Udio but it doesn't seem to want me! Won't allow me to sign up, just keeps sending me back to the homepage. So it doesn't look like it's going to 'take over' my music anytime soon

Just like every time we heard an orch stab in the 80s we wondered how long it would take for the “sampling shtick” to wear off. Or after we heard “Believe” we wondered how long would it take for the “autotune shtick” to wear off. Or after hearing gated reverb how long would the algorithmic reverb shtick to wear off.
I also remember all the bleeps and bloops heard when analog synths first appeared, or all the clunky drum patterns heard when drum machines were introduced, and so on.

Basically I’m trying to suggest that it’s only “shtick” because it just the cliches at this point. AI doesn’t have a ‘sound’ or even an application. It is core tech that can be used any number of ways. The “shtick” of having AI generate full tracks from a text prompt may indeed wear off, and probably quite quickly as well. But I don’t see the core tech going away any time soon.

Like any tech, some folks will find creative uses for it, some will not.

There is much wisdom in these words. As with the examples mentioned (autotune above all), one can argue for years that it was better if these clichés had never appeared on the scene.

However, what will remain of AI (after the initial physiological bulimic phase) will be what will come from the grassroots, from the small teenage producers who will make something connected to the weltanschauung of this era that will make those who are a few years older turn up their noses at it but will become the typical sound of those artists and those years.

It must be said, however, that AI is not a stab, nor an effect and is subject to rapid evolution. We cannot limit its scope and field of action.

We can rejoice at the fact that companies like Suno or Udio are brought to trial for copyright infringement, but we cannot expect AI to disappear from the world, if only from the world of music.

And if we want to be optimistic, AI will help us to manage all those aspects of micromanagement or boring and tedious work in mixing and mastering well and quickly, leaving us always the possibility to act manually where we want to: this is what I hope will come in the next months/years.

AI sound and music will be the driving force forward without a doubt but it is after all just a tool of and for human creativity so some humans will use it to make fart songs while others will push creative boundaries.
Personally I am intrigued by Stable Diffusion's experiments into thought imaging and Meta's mind reading AI abilities because maybe one day we will be able to simply think our music into existence.
