Karen Carpenter bashing the actual shit out her kit at 18. Not often you want a drum solo to go on for longer...

Gotta love Karen Carpenter. She was such an amazing singer and drummer (perhaps not better than Bonham, as a famous Playboy magazine poll suggested). I think Carpenters are one of those sissy bands that even the most macho man can get a pass for liking, ie, not going to lose your man card for liking them. Not that I have a man card; mine was taken away by the International Man Card Association long ago after publicly admitting that I like ABBA.

The YT algorithm served me this little Norwegian lo-fi gem today. Sounds a bit like Nils Lofgren:

Thanks for sharing. This is really nice.

I have to wonder if it’s the darkness just under the surface in the lives of of the Carpenters that gave their “aw shucks” image a bit more depth, even if you weren’t aware of it at the time.
I remember seeing a pirated VHS of this back in the day, a haunting story of Karens eating disorder struggles and her untimely death at 32, made all the more bizarre by being filmed entirely with Barbie dolls (Directed by Todd Haynes).

I'm French-Canadian, and while my grandparents didn't speak English at all, ABBA was my grandfather's longtime favourite group.

Wow, I don't know how I missed this band in the 80s. "Broken Land" by the Adventures (1988). The piano hook is awesome, and the singing/lyrics are truely powerful.

One member of The Jets, a supposed all-Wolfgramm family band, was not part of their family. Eugene Joseph Wolfgramm's real name was Gene Hunt, but he used that Wolfgramm pseudonym to maintain the illusion that this was all just one big music family. (He's the red-haired kid in the lower right). I worked with his mother, Alofa Hunt, at Honeywell in the 80s, and both the Hunts and Wolfgramm families were from the island of Tonga, a U.S. territory, later moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and starting The Jets. Gene left after several albums to start Boys Club in Minneapolis. Kinda weird that I have such personal memories of him, as well as my having worked a temp job at Princes's Paisley Park, as I'm not at all well connected in the music biz, LOL! It is simply a small world!

I, uh, hate to be that guy but I'm pretty sure Tonga isn't a US territory, though part of Samoa is. Tonga is a monarchy - when I was a student i was friends with a Tongan woman I was astonished to find out was actually a princess. Yup...

Six Degrees of Separation is a popular theory that suggests that everyone in the world is connected through six or fewer social connections. It has been around for centuries and has been studied by scientists from many different disciplines. The concept of six degrees of separation can be traced back to the writings of Hungarian author Frigyes Karinthy in 1929, who explored the idea that any two people in the world could be connected through a chain of acquaintances only six links long.

Now my quest is to know what was the top drum machines used in Latin freestyle. Linndrum first? The sound of my Yamaha RX next? Roland 6, 7, 8? All of the above, depending on when the machines were available?

Have a Merry Christmas to all!

Choom, when it comes to gaming, yes, I've been a gonk living under a rock! So, imagine the shock to my system when the very 1st triple-A video game I ever tried (and got running on my Mac M2 using CrossOver) was Cyberpunk 2077! The visuals, the soundtrack, and all the various radio songs of the day! My head was spinning for a solid month and hundreds of hours, as I got sucked in, barely able to believe what I was seeing and hearing! I ended up locating all the Cyberpunk 2077 albums on Apple Music.

Love these preem songs:

"Delicate Weapon" by Grimes & Lizzy Wizzy https://music.apple.com/us/album/delica ... 1540792924
"Real Window" by Bryan Aspey & Quantum Lovers https://music.apple.com/us/album/real-w ... 1558986389
"Antagnositic" by Chris Cardena, Sebastian Robertson & Pacific Avenue https://music.apple.com/us/album/antago ... 1558985965
"V" by Marcin Przybylowicz [Game Title Track] https://music.apple.com/us/album/v/1544 ... 1544457962

Color me BLOWN AWAY! This 70's rocker has been breached and permanently altered by these Ripperdocs!
