An option to choose your own metronome sound could be worth the upgrade

14 'fresh' metronome tones. For $25 that makes the full RS 13 $199's upgrade the deal of the century, if I can decide how "so fresh and so clean" my own sampled tones are

The future of Reason is pretty simple. It's gonna die as a DAW. It's gonna last as a VST plugin.
I was propagating this view since ver 7 on the old ReasonForum even when the VST plugin wasn't in plans. I was ridiculed but I think ...... I was a kinda prophet.
Come on. I don't have any deals with angels - just a pure reason (sic)

The Reason DAW needs complete rewriting from the scratch. I don't say it's impossible, but it's extremely hard to do. The programming framework of Reason is just obsolete and nobody can do nothing about it. Don't expect any crucial improvements in the workflow. It's not gonna happen.

Now you ask. Why do buy all the versions from 6-12 (I skipped ver 10) when you think it's obsolete?
The answer is simple: Reason is sound-based in contrast to all major DAWS which are track-based. I use Reason when I need an original sound, loop, etc. The sequencing I do with Reaper guy.

Is fixing the DAW really a rewrite from scratch? Most of what’s asked for on this board and elsewhere seems to be incremental. Markers and track folders aren’t a base code rewrite, surely?

Hey, you may be right about the future of Reason being RRP only. I can see the commercial logic behind that if getting the DAW into a better place is onerous and expensive. But 1) is it really that hard to fix the basics in the DAW that people have banged on about for ages? IDK but a lot of what is asked for seems pretty basic IMO And 2) are people really going to pay £20 per month or a big multiple of that per perpetual licence for a plugin with no DAW? Can RS go head to head with Roland Cloud or NI for that kind of money? I love Reason but I’m really not sure that would work commercially. A much lower monthly sub for R+ as RRP only? Maybe. But even that is a risk when any of us can buy amazing plugins for a lot less than a few months of R+. IMO best bet for RS remains fix the DAW and keep building on R12 as both RRP and DAW.

You know: In Sweden the summer vacation is rather long and I suspect any RS employee would rather not taint their vacation reading here how much their work/company/DAW/sequencer/etc. allegedly sucks.

You must understand that RS has no power or abilities to move to the new framework which costs a lot of magic touch, mental power, money and focus.

Please bear in mind that major bias on my end is involved...

From my (biased!) point of view they should consider joining SoundWide. From my pov SoundWide is a joined effort by several companies who had issues... At one time iZotope pushed heavily for subscription only, Native Instruments also poked in that area and then SoundWide happened. Subsriptions are still a thing but what do you know... companies came somewhat back to their senses and now there's focus on perpetual again. Not always in a good way (my upgrade deal for iZotope is kinda "meh") but even so: it's there.

Humor me and look at that page: what is missing? => There's a lot of plugins, there's an impressive (!) mastering suite, more plugins, instruments... yet it seems they don't really have a DAW....

This is probably never going to happen but from my POV Reason could very well be that "glue" to bring the whole thing back together.

As much as I love Maschine (I consider myself a bit of a fanboy)... it's not a DAW and that shows. There's a reason why I started to use "another DAW" next to Live combined with Maschine.

I agree that the SoundWide group might be a good match for RS. I wonder if Verdane would try to sell them right now.

I highly doubt that... I've been following this whole thing on and off from a NI perspective (= me being active on the NI forum) and all the hype has pretty much ended. For several months already. Heck, followers got an amazing freebie out of this too, all involved companies provided some seriously "not to be underestimated" freebies.

Could be a marketing trick, fair enough, but since we're several months into this...

Ha, fun to see we could agree on something without a backstab involved.

We're getting a bit offtopic here, but I wonder how they will go about merging the accounts and user bases and integrating it all into a seamless customer experience. E.g. I'm a customer of all three of them (and using individual mail addresses for each company). So for this to go smoothly I suppose they'd have to first create a meta login service (soundwide ID or something) and then let users link their accounts. Also a unified installer/manager app would be needed (which should also include the exponential audio plugins which still use iLok). So I guess there is quite a lot of work going on behind the scenes to get this rolling. And actually Reason could possibly fit in there as well with the licensing aspect of REs and the store front / companion.

Worth it to get away from that fucking Reason click that I've had since Reason V1. Would have been happy to pay a lot more in fact.

Hmm... So I am not the only one :D

Full story (long, long time ago): I miss my Atari metronome. Samples online are (guessing) from the audio output of the STe. Too clean. Not what I want. I need that SM124 crappy monitor blip blip sweetness
I still have my ST so no big deal: mic it and sample it. I realized THEN it was impossible to change Reason's metronome
But the floppy is not too happy so it will cost me more than $25 to do that sentimental project now. Maybe one day.

Thanks for link btw

I don't think Reason sucks, I think it is 60-70% good. I just would love to see 2 upgrades: VST3 and M1 compatibility. After that, I am good.

You're reading something here I did not write or imply. I was talking in general here and not explicitly aimed at npinero1's Cry for Mattias, but rather some other posts around this forum where I if I were an RS employee would rather not taint my holiday with.

I've given up on wishing for anything in Reason updates/upgrades. They can't even deliver what they promised a year ago.
Just here to repeat that they never “promised” ANYTHING. They gave us as road map (we asked for one), and they were careful to explain it was just a road map not a promise. Yet folks keep saying they “promised” us something…

I’m not sure that we should require them to swear on a bible or make a pinky-promise for us to have some kind of expectation that we should see something substantial, useful, and (hopefully) fun.

If a DAW maker only made updates that they had previously promised, improvements would be far and few between.

My apologies if I upset anyone in my request to hear from Mattias. It was all in good fun as a fan of the platform. I never look negatively at Reason Studios and before that Propellerheads.. I just love the inspiration that comes with new features and tools.
