ForReason12, If you personally had to shop for a laptop, what would you get and why?
I would go for a macbook pro m1. 16 inches.
Without any hesitation. Even not native it still rocks.

The M1 right now is a no-brainer for laptops right now.
Intel's roadmap shows they plan to catch up with the M1 in 2024.

I always have been a PC guy, but being pragmatic, Apple has taken a vast edge here. The M1 blows every other CPU.
I have a very powerful Razer laptop with 15inch Oled and RTX2080/i7 9750h/32gb/1tb SSD which was the top of the line 2 years ago and my macbook air m1, 20% of its price with 8gb feels more powerful and snappy with Reason...
I still use the Razer because the screen is so much better, but I feel so tempted by the macbook pro 16inch...

I recently bought a laptop for Reason and bought Mac for the first time. I got the base 8Gb MacBook Air M1 and apart from the small ssd (due to my limited budget) it runs Reason 12 really well. Noiseless, quick and capable. There is still an OS learning curve for me but it's usually minor irritations due to my many years of using windows. Definitely recommended from me. I got mine 2nd hand for a very reasonable price.

I wonder how R12 looks on a 13 inch Laptop? I can´t find Videos on the web which shown the zoom in and out.

I'm using Reason 12 on my trusty little macbook air with an M1 and it runs just fine, and oh so portable. If you do go with an M1 I think there are some settings you need to deal with in preferences regarding multi core and hyper-threading audio rendering, but others could probably speak to those more intelligently. I have hit some performance limits, but I really gotta get lots of tracks and heavy processing going.
I expect there may be better options than the M1 Macs. Its not all about power.
I am using a 2015 MacBook Pro i7 16gb and on a heavy project which starts crackling , I am only using about 30% cpu. and not even 8gb ram is used.
Would be interest to see m1 cpu usage on the benchmark viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7520702 and how it compares with other systems.

Ok I ran that a while ago. My razer I7 9750h with 32gb, 1tb NVMe against my macbook air m1 8gb, 256ssd.Fusion wrote: ↑02 Sep 2022I expect there may be better options than the M1 Macs. Its not all about power.

What I can tell you is the m1 won easily. But I don't remember at which bar it started falling.
For me the other stuffs to take into account is battery life : again the macbook with m1 win easily.
Quality of the screen: macbook lose against a 4k Oled that you can get on windows (but you have to deal with hdpi issues).
Ports: macbook lose as you need often to convert USB C to something else.
Audio: draw, especially if you use an external dac.

I have a 17" laptop PC and I'm a real cheerleader for laptops with big screens.
When I upgrade, I will have an honest look at how often I actually take my laptop out of the house and use it elsewhere. Tbh it happens *at most* once a year. Probably less than that.
So when I upgrade, I think it's likely I will get a small computer plus big display. Maybe a new Mac Mini, breaking a lifetime of PC use.
The only issue is I have 4 USB ports in use all the time - wireless mouse and keyboard, interface, controller keyboard. Most of these Macs seem to have very few ports.
