Do you have any fun or exciting ideas for the new Combinator?
I'm encouraged by the bit in Mattias's blog where he says there's plans to extend the new combinator further in the future.
Two things I'd really like to see - actually two versions of a similar thing:
firstly I'd like to be able to quantize the values turning a knob generates - ie rather than moving smoothly through a range of 1-127 like this
1,2,3,4...125, 126,127
I'd like to be able to move in set steps that I can nominate, eg
1,7,14,21,28...112,199,126
Probably limited usefulness when you're dealing with dB and midi values but super useful for semitones and cents - in other words you could, for example, turn a pitch knob and move up or down in 5ths or 7ths.
Actually thinking about this, and it's probably kind of technical, but it would be cool to have like a lag function - a bit like portmento - where instead of an instant change you could set the period of time the change takes. In ms or bpm. Yup....
Anyway secondly I'd like to be able to move between a range of values that I have set. So again, instead of moving smoothly through 1-127, I might move like this
1,27,48,52,67.... etc, to pick some random numbers.
Really handy if you're playing live, or mixing something on the fly - so for example you could manually change a volume setting to suit the loud and quiet passages of your track, rather than drawing it in the automation lane. Or open and close a filter cutoff, or shift the panning from right to left. (Again a lag would be nice too).
Anyway that's my little contribution.

I hope this is allowed: A source range question for key source. I've been struggling with this, it's not *really* a new issue.
For a Scales & Chords player, I want to control Inversion by key range. It has five values.
Now, scaling to a 1-1 ratio of key to value is easy. E.g. 47% (60) to 50% (64).
But I can't get it to scale per octave, and I feel really dumb for that. What values do I need to put in?
Do I need multiple S&C's, one per octave, and limit target value per instance?

I seriously don't understand why there's only 8 cv inputs. There's enough space to put like 64 there
There's so many cool new things with the new Combinator, but this is one of my favorites:
Map to Combi Control
It's a simple thing, but a huge workflow improvement.

Well, I do believe that’s the purpose of the Reason + packs.Faastwalker wrote: ↑01 Sep 2021We need an Combinator 2 thread / web page where patches can be shared. I bet there's loads out there the instant Reason 12 officially launched. Where are they all? How can we consolidate the richness of amazing patches that people are going to create?
Seriously, they have very talented designers that are going to be able to create amazing sounds with Reason 12 tools.

I found that really disappointing.Biolumin3sc3nt wrote: ↑01 Sep 2021I seriously don't understand why there's only 8 cv inputs. There's enough space to put like 64 there
Now that people can talk about combi 2 can I ask any live owners who bought reason 12 what additional benefits the combi brings. Does it do anything different than live instrument and effect racks (other than the obvious of combining stuff in rrp) prior to live racks.

Yeah man 64 would be super cool. But i was fearing there were the same or even less (like 4 as in most new synths and they left out the cvs for the dynamic knobs). So 4 more than the normal Combinator is at least something.Jagwah wrote: ↑01 Sep 2021I found that really disappointing.Biolumin3sc3nt wrote: ↑01 Sep 2021I seriously don't understand why there's only 8 cv inputs. for sure they did not get all features reay for the release. when you look at the first schemantic of combinator 2 it does look different with custom displays or something. in the new video (reason12 has arrived) there are only knobs and faders shown on the combinator 2 schemantics
Ppl rather want to wait 5 years until all their requested features are implemented, instead getting something sooner, where maybe not everything is fully implemented.CR68 wrote: ↑01 Sep 2021for sure they did not get all features reay for the release. when you look at the first schemantic of combinator 2 it does look different with custom displays or something. in the new video (reason12 has arrived) there are only knobs and faders shown on the combinator 2 schemantics
Reason12, Win10
Agreed - saved me loads of time for big Combinators. Now they just need that popup to show what is already assigned so you can see what's up AND so you can change assignments from this "view" (which would be far easier than digging through the list editor IMO).

What schematic are you referring to? Thinking maybe I missed something here…CR68 wrote: ↑01 Sep 2021for sure they did not get all features reay for the release. when you look at the first schemantic of combinator 2 it does look different with custom displays or something. in the new video (reason12 has arrived) there are only knobs and faders shown on the combinator 2 schemantics

if you look at the video:
when the new combi is advertised, you see a lot of custom diplays...

The graphical illustrations in the promo videos are abstract - they're not meant to be a 1:1 representation (see Mimic as well). That said, Mattias stated in his blog today:CR68 wrote: ↑01 Sep 2021for sure they did not get all features reay for the release. when you look at the first schemantic of combinator 2 it does look different with custom displays or something. in the new video (reason12 has arrived) there are only knobs and faders shown on the combinator 2 schemantics
Now that Reason 12 is properly released you might wonder what's next? We'll have more to say about that in the near future but for starters we'll simply keep working. The Combinator's been designed to be expanded with more features over time and there are still parts of Reason that need hi-res assets, so that's where we'll start.

Reason and Combinator 2 have everything you need to make an "Rc20 like" and even better

I wondered about this. Good to have it confirmed from Mattias The future's bright. The future's Combinator 2
Yea, this sentence is the most interesting at all...oh dear...what great stuff there might be comingFaastwalker wrote: ↑02 Sep 2021I wondered about this. Good to have it confirmed from Mattias The future's bright. The future's Combinator 2
