Is this gonna be a free update for R11 users?
Since we're so close in the cycle to when the next version of Reason would normally be announced, I had been expecting the hi-res update would be rolled into Reason 12.

But this is... weird! Reason Studios has never made an announcement like this for a feature by itself, complete with a beta period and marketing video. I don’t know what this means for Reason 12 now, as an announcement that already had one of its features announced earlier would be a very strange way to announce a new version of something. Which leads me to believe Reason 12 is actually further out than anticipated, and 11.x will be a longer cycle than the past few.

I'm still holding out hope that we get vst midi support as a free update to V11.5

Let's take some time to appreciate this beauty.
Don't know the name of the designer(s) involved, but congratulations to the team!

They have stated that the next big upgrade (presumably 12) is later this year and that it will include this HD feature. It's in this this blog entry:

https://www.reasonstudios.com/blog/what ... for-reason

The sentence is "In fact, we're currently working hard on the next big Reason upgrade for release later this year which will include the mythical hi-res update and many other really exciting features."

We all want one of these cameras right?!

Fun trivia fact: that is a genuine Panasonic Omnimovie VHS camera from the 80s which I rigged up with a "matte box" and rails" to look more substantial.
Too late for my little Cherry 2000 poster meme, but never too late to appreciate that classic movie

I particularly miss spot announcements like these on Reason, it's just good 'ole comedic spice that only folks at Reason can do. RACKAVISION 4000 STILL CRACKS ME UP.

I was like "WHO DA HECK WAS SLEEPING WHEN RACKAVISION 4000 went out of focus then???"

Betas are never available for download from the product page, or are they? 🤔

You got to go to the beta site, a link for which is on the email you got when you got accepted into the program.

My beta page is only showing an R11 Beta, with no mention of gfx in the change log.

The answer to the lack of high resolution in Reason for me has been using lower resolution monitors.

I use 3 FullHD monitors, so for now I am not interested in high definition, what I see looks good ... I have been updating since always I never missed any, but if HD is the most important thing they are going to offer, I will stay in the 11 suite ... what's more, I don't think I will update again until VST3 compatibility exists and they support Midi 2.0. I don't want more new instruments or slight improvements in the workflow, I want a DAW that makes me forget about the Rack plugin.

unless I miss my guess, there will need to be a ton of updates in Reason 12 *because* of the resolution upgrade. the UI touches nearly every fundamental aspect of a DAW—it would be an enormous wasted opportunity if they don’t improve in many other areas.

VST3 might be one of the areas where the UI update doesn’t require them to do much work, but I really hope we get that too. it’s just necessary.

There is nothing about any way to access a download from that link. You can write tickets, but there aren't any explanation or direction on how to download the beta

You will receive an email and instruction how to access the download if you are ACCAPTED as a beta tester. Just signing up does not make you a beta tester, you are just in a queue and maybe you will have access.

great video luv it 👍🏼 also looks fantastic, not got time to beta test but im hoping the jump to v12 ( whenever it comes ) is a good jump from v10. I also hope Reason don't seperate the plugin from the daw from a licensing point of view because i do take it for granted 😂

Possibly, although it's likely not the entire UI that's been rewritten, just the rack (and maybe the mixer). The sequencer, for instance, is probably a separate codebase from the rack.

I'm leaning toward this being a Reason 9.5 situation: The hi-res update is looking like one last hurrah for 11.x after all (although it's still weird that they aren't marketing this with a version number), and then we'll see Reason 12 announced a few months afterward.
