My brain short circuited trying to figure out how he got that snare sound from the synth
Algoritm is released!
Well yes, if I had a PX, I would also be glad that I have two completely different instruments lol. Okay, no matter, thanks anyway for positive vibrations (it's sincere).LongFist wrote: ↑25 Feb 2021I do. I started a "Rent to Own" about two months before it disappeared. And I truly do love it (I'm a kid of the 80's). But Algoritm - Algoritm is something completely different. I don't think the two should be compared, really. Algoritm's just so easy to use! It's not PX7's fault, really: we didn't know much better back in the 1980's, and that was - for the time - the best that we could do. Lots and lots of details that most normal folks would just ignore, because they wanted a particular sound, not to launch men to the moon! (Reference: a lot of people back then compared the DX7 to NASA's Mission Control.)
But Algoritm has made a lot of that simpler. And made even more of it exciting! Inspirational, even.
I just hope people will give it chance on its own merits. It's not PX7. It's Algoritm. And it's sensational!!! Thank you for such a fun and intuitive sound-production monster!
I like this synth. Its typical Reason-like. Very flexible and easy in use. You can doing complex things if you want but you can also do quick FM in an easy way. The decision of the ADSR Envelopes ist good for me, because mostly I dont need the complex Envelopes with the separate Level / time parameters and its always time consumed to adjust them right. The silverbullet would be, if Algoritm gets some kind of Formant shaping like the Yamaha FS1R.

Now that this is released can we get a dedicated oscilloscope. Patching through Complex -1 is easy but the screen is so small. I’d love to see the waveforms made with Algoritm on a larger screen.
Skope and Skope M4 by Lectric Panda are both free!Chi-Individual wrote: ↑25 Feb 2021Now that this is released can we get a dedicated oscilloscope. Patching through Complex -1 is easy but the screen is so small. I’d love to see the waveforms made with Algoritm on a larger screen.

Are there any oscilloscopes in the store that take a note input so they can automatically sync to a single cycle?

This thing is really crazy !
Endless variations of sound design...and it's all very easy to use !
I was skeptical about UI design before full interface was revealed, but I must admit now that it looks very sexy. Inteface design is inviting, it suits the reason rack style, it looks fresh and inspiring.
Fresh and inspiring is also sound, the overall sound quality is very good.
I also worried that this synth would be just another classic FM synth, but fortunately, I was very wrong .
Sound sources and sound modifiers can be routed in really amazing ways. It's not fixed routing, everything is totally interconnectable which brings amazing possibillities for sound design. It's big fun to mess with the cable routing system, the core of the synth architecture. It allows various combinations of parallel and serial processings and setups, both for modulation and audio mixing.
This synth is a hybrid which I like. It's something between true FM, wavetable and subtractive synth.
----------------------------
A few suggestions for updates:
- Add bypass option for modules (sound sources & sound modifiers)
- Add volume boost toggle for modules. Sometimes there is not enough volume to push sound louder. For example at certain settings of Shaper or Filter
- Add bypass option for modulation matrix slots
- Retain "segment" mode option for Curve 1 and Curve 2 modulators. Just like Europa envelopes have.
----------------------------
PS: Those circle knobs are cool

Congrats, Reason Studios, this looks and sounds amazing. Super easy to use interface and huge sonic sculpting possibilities. Let this be the new average quality for every new device you make moving forward.

Absolutely smashed it! Well done RS! This looks like SUCH a good FM synth. Can't wait to have a play with it.
The only idea that popped into my head is, an audio input that lets you use external audio as a modulator.

This articulates my feelings about skeumorphism really well. You have to let go at some point, or it's just holding back design possibilities.tronam wrote: ↑25 Feb 2021Regarding the design and laments over Reason's visual past, I actually think this is a far better approach for more "technical" kinds of synthesis like this. It's so clearly laid out and easy to understand. It's not like the DX7 had CV cables or rotaries and I surely wouldn't want to see a UI with tons of tiny 3D membrane buttons. Skeuomorphism is in a weird place these days because I think its original purpose of providing a design language that helps transition an analog generation into digital is kind of running on fumes at this point. I'm fond of it too, but like with nostalgia, too much indulgence limits forward thinking creativity.

I will say, after playing around with this for just 15 minutes, it put a nice smile on My face. The randomization feature is almost voodoo on some patches. I was like "what in the f**k was that?" ...in a good way of course lol.
Players are a nice touch as well with this Puppy. I'll pick it up soon!

This thing looks fantastic on a big screen in the RRP ngl. Evolution sequencer on top, find nice patch, tweak the random button a tad, could be doing that all night.

Seeing THE com truise using Reason, would be a out of body experience.
Is it a bit obvious I'm a big fan ?

Looks promising. Had this been added to the R11 product instead of being a stand alone $99 product I might have upgraded to 11. Certainly not buying a $99 synth separately.
PX7's best friend. Montage FM-X Smart Morph Performance's worst nightmare, almost? $3900 of savings?
I don't understand the mix of 3D red push buttons (the unison) in a sea of flat look, but other than that the interface is cool and easy to get.
Thank you RS!
