Foldable Rack Columns

Like already mentioned in another thread, I suggest integrating foldable rack columns for tightening the rack visually, easier connection and navigation in multi-columns scenarios. Here´s a quick mock up to demonstrate the suggested idea even though it could look very different designwise of course.

Not sure I've ever seen this idea mentioned before, apologies to anyone who did - but this is simple genius. The ability to name the racks is also a simple and super smart idea. Love it.moofi wrote: ↑20 Sep 2021Like already mentioned in another thread, I suggest integrating foldable rack columns for tightening the rack visually, easier connection and navigation in multi-columns scenarios. Thank you Though I don´t know wether it already had been mentioned before I at least assume that has been the case

I think is a great idea, and the same approach could be used for folding "selected for fold tracks" of even bus groups in the SSL mixer.
It could have the same behavior as the rack idea but of course it could have additional visual UI like a general meter...
I think Fruityloops or Cubase have a similar feature

Well, I actually don´t know how easy it is to implement anything like that into the Rack, then if it is as easy as I potentially imagine it to be, saying if the "UI-engine" can simply be configured like this, it could actually be done pretty quickly.

Great idea!
I would add a M (mute) & S (solo) button in each folded rack; just for that extra bit of hands on control / speed whilst working…

Yes, I thought of something like that aswell, then what if there are multiple mixchannels or none in that column?
A little patchname-like window with a dropdown menue for what mix channel or even device should be displayed could help here. .
Then of course I would aswell integrate a VU Meter

I think everything should be collapsable multiple times. Waiting for the Reason Origami Edition
Joking aside, great idea.

RS should hire you
It would be cool to have some kind of animation when space saving your rack, the same fun way when the cables jiggle a bit.

Here´s an advanced version with mentioned Mute- and Solo- Buttons aswell as the dropdownmenue to choose what device output (basically everything that has audio coming out of it, like mix channels. instruments, effects, etc.) is being displayed and thatfor which device can be muted/soloed through the rack columns interface.
Even a merger/splitter if there is simply an option to mute the outputsignal of a device would be possible.
If directly muting a device output isn´t that easily possible or being able to choose from less obvious devices could cause confusion we could stay with mix channels for starters.
Accordingly there is an output VU-Meter aswell. Again this could look quite different and more subtle. Just took Thor´s display and the Line Mixer´s mute/solo buttons.
Edit: I just noticed, I forgot to implement the new elements on the left and very right column, anyway

This is an excellent idea! I'm on board for this too! It looks sleek, very practical, easy to use and wastes very little space. I like it also because it's use is optional: If you want to keep working the traditional way using lateral scrolling or the navigator section, you just don't fold the racks! Brilliant!

Yes, that´s how I felt/feel about it aswell. I like options especially when they are optional

It is a very good idea. I am not 100% convinced on adding/duplicating functionality Mute etc on each Rack Column as that seems to me to be a Bus thing but so long as it is elegant (therefore not intrusive or cluttered) I am all for it.
Same with a Mixer Bus-based Folderational function.

I too like the initial, basic idea in the first post.
I suppose it's worth mentioning that there are many users already unhappy having with the rack, mixer, and sequencer handles, so they would have to accept another handle at the top of every rack as well... Which I think is great for labeling, but some might find it unnecessary.

I like this idea a lot, and I think the labels would be very useful.
It might be interesting if each column could be saved as a "rack patch" (minus any cross-column connections).
RRP could potentially export such a patch as well, giving better interoperability between RRP and standalone.
