Nice video from a guy who's been creating a lot of videos with RRP in Ableton:

Players are to MIDI what synthesizers are to waveforms.

You're at least one 303 and one 909 or 808 short. Also the PCF, foldback distortion, delay and compressor are missing, but it's a good start ;) *jk*

And there is kinda no point recreating Rebirth. I loved it and it's still a lot of fun but things have moved on.

RS could recreate it if it was sure to bring profits. They are closer to making it than other RE devs, they can reuse their own source code. Though, any RE dev could do that, it's not that complicated, rather a bunch of tedious work.

They probably won't. Wasn't the iPad app removed from the store because of lawyer mail from Roland?

I wonder what Roland claimed as their IP. The look of 303? It could be changed.

You can read Reason Studios' statement from 2017 here:
We have decided to discontinue ReBirth for iPad. The decision comes after a statement from Roland that the product infringes on the company’s intellectual property rights. Rather than refuting this claim, we have decided to honor our long-standing relationship with Roland Corporation, and have therefore come to the conclusion that the best path forward is to discontinue the product.

Thanks! I wasn’t aware that an official statement existed. So… shortly before Roland started their cloud subscription service.

As far as I know, none of the others got notices, not even ABL3 which is still regarded by many as the better 303 software emulation over Roland's own VST. I think maybe Propellerhead's relationship with Roland had something to do with it? I think Roland themselves had given some praise to Rebirth very early on, and Propellerhead liked to point that out.

I still use the 808 & 909 samples in every track.

Goldbaby samples + ABL-3 + half-rack FX is all you need.

Has the 909 been recreated yet with using only Kong?

You only need to get the bass drum, snare, clap, rimshot and toms modelled right. The other 909 sounds were just 6-bit samples.

Propellerhead had a go at this themselves when they launched ReBirth Musuem website back in 2005.

I'm not sure if this Refill is still available from normal channels, but it was a free Refill.

Yes, but they're not competing with Roland's Zen-Beats on the app store.
