quick throw in question regarding the zoom shortcuts on windows. does anybody know why they changed them?? my muscle memory gets me all the time. sure not a big thing to adapt over time but still: Why?

Shift + Ctrl + Mousewheel = Zoom In/Out
Ctrl + Mousewheel = Increase/Decrease Lane hight
(Shift + Mousewheel = Move Arrangement view Left/Right) same

R13:
Ctrl + Mousewheel = Zoom In/Out
Shift + Ctrl + Mousewheel = Increase/Decrease Lane hight
(Shift + Mousewheel = Move Arrangement view Left/Right) same

Yea, they changed it. Dunno why. Still struggling with it... Maybe it's a bug....

I think they wanted to harmonize the zoom behaviour with other software, where Ctrl+MW is pretty much the standard for zoom in/out.

I’m also struggling with the zoom changes. I hope it’s a bug and that the settings will be will be back to normal soon. Also, the zoom does not always respond to the scroll wheel, at least not for me, but I guess that must be a bug.

ah well then i am not the only one struggling. it would be really great to have some kind of editor for the shortcuts (like on mac or with reaper for example)

I am referring specifically to the lateral browser

Tags don't work the same as favorites, You have to be clicking on utilities, effects, instruments constantly

also without samples, , the floating browser attached to a screen

If you're talking about the Device palette, one of the improvements of R13 is that you can now browse all categories together, just unselect those filters and then you are browsing all device categories.

Same! This is the one thing that I hope is "fixed" in a point update soon. Otherwise, I'm really liking the new browser. Seems to check all of my boxes aside from the aforementioned dual monitor issue, as well as no waveform playback scrubber and no BPM detection & sync with samples. If they add those 3 features, I'll never likely ask for another thing in the browser!

It CAN be on another browser if the window you use to open the Browser is on another monitor, but that's probably not what you're talking about?

Lol - no, that's not what we're talking about, buddy. ;) If you work on multiple displays, the browser is locked to one display. You can't drag it between them. Shouldn't have to drag your entire Reason modal window.

That's a whole nether world, plus I don't live in browser mode for my personal workflow so I'm having a bit of trouble getting clear on what folks are asking for here.
Sounds like they designed a browser for opening, finding a patch, and closing then moving on, and some folks like to keep the browser open and drag it around to different locations - am I getting closer?

I simply like to leave the Browser open, but I need to move it around only because it's in the way of this or that.

to quickly drag and drop things, and search through hundreds of samples

I really must be working differently from you - browsing for me is such a small part of what I’m doing when making music. It would be like me keeping the microphone drawer open during mixing. At some point in the process I’m done adding parts and have other work to get done!

That said, I actually do not understand the decisions behind the current browser behavior - if ya’ll want to see your all of your toys all day why shouldn’t the toy box always be open and movable to any part of the room. :)

Reminds me of other basic things that seem to be restricted because of the way things were designed, making it difficult to change or implement basic features.

I still like using Reason more than any other option for song creation, but I now have a bald spot on my head from scratching with every new Reason release…

The latter sounds like a suggestion for a smaller browser, the former doesn’t require any changes from the current operation. Again I don’t need any of this to change for my workflow, and I’m guessing the minority wants it done differently as this wasn’t a big deal during testing for most of us.

Like always, we look for workarounds because we don’t expect the powers that be to make any of these changes, at least not any time soon. I still miss device favorites in the device browser, but I’m not holding my breath hoping for that feature to be restored… ;(

I just want us to move on from browser discourse so I can get MIDI note chase. And also fixed automation in Logic. Just those two things. That's all I need for now.

But isn't the browser context dependant? If I open the browser by clicking a button in the instrument Europa, then the browser's context is: "find me a patch for Europa". Once inside this browser I can switch to "all instruments" (I think) but can I switch to finding "samples" or "Rex Loops" ?
(can't check on my music computer right now)

So maybe that is the reason why the design team thought it to be a good idea, to have the browser only for the current context, on the current spot and only temporary.

Could be that they find a good way to switch the context/behavior of the browser in the GUI on the fly. Then it would make sense again to want a browser open the whole day, moveable to all displays.

There’s a reason why I am slow to appreciate this way of working…
That’s a total recipe for distraction for my distract-able brain, probably why I like hiding the browser as soon as I’m done with it.
The last thing my brain needs is to be reminded of ALL the OTHER possibilities while trying to deal with the one current possibility in front of my face. It may also be why I prefer one monitor/view at a time for the most part.

Horses for courses, and this old horse is just used to running a certain way. ;)
