Wow this sounds really cool, Dave.  The whole vibe, with the swirling pads, the arps, the vocals (both delivery and tone) reminds me so much of Psychedelic Furs or The Church.  This song would be so at home on a late 80s alternative radio station.  Awesome work.

[Last Alternative]

Super ethereal flute there. Very Enigma and Enya of you. The arps are nice and soothing. The vocals are a little hard to make out but I love your tone and the swimming fx. I think the arps are blurring you some. The bass sounds perfect. Kick is weak. It's almost not even there but the drums are light so it makes sense. Just needs a little more click to stand out maybe but I'd boost the bottom a few dB too. The rest of the drums sound good. I'd back off the fx a tad. Sorry to focus so much on the mix. I tend to do that too much instead of really taking in the song.
So listening again and it's a really nice feel but doesn't have any contrast. You said it's not done. So. I'd say drop the arp or add anther instrument or change the beat to separate the verse and chorus and redo the vocals and you'll have yourself a great song for your catalog. Album worthy.
Last I think it needs to be wider so maybe pan the arp and fx out hard.

Maybe my wording towards the end wasn't right. I just meant to drop the arp here and there for more contrast. The tones themselves are ear candy. Just a little soupy with all the fx going on.

Yeah, I tend to get into a groove and stick there… Contrast is difficult for me, but I hear what you're saying….

I like the athmosphere in this tune! A little bit like Illusion by VNV Nation.

Enjoyed listening to your track Dave very dreamy atmosphere good overall feel to it I like the vocals they seem to drift in and out of the mix, possibly a little variation of the music at some point some automation or a breakdown maybe would add to it. Nice work.....

Thanks! There seems to be consensus that the vocals are if nothing else, too far back in the mix (although I just got a comment from a listener on sound cloud that he liked the distant vocals…). I think I'll work on that first, and see if it works better, then consider other things like interrupting or automating the arps and adding breakdowns, etc.
