Why is the music subforum so quiet?

Very good discussion, thanks all for your input!
A side thought:
If you publish music in the Music Forum, I bet ppl would like that you share some context related to how you created it.
Ofc not all wants to share their secret toolbox and that's fine. But there's always something that could be said, and inspire ppl and also engage members to reply

How can we improve the Music Forum? Thread here
The forum rules have been updated to make this suggestion.

And going back to what dioxide was saying about listening to music made with Reason and how things have changed over the years (now that it's not self-contained and users can make a song with any plug-ins), it's nice seeing the track. I've noticed on social media and chat servers, the users that post videos showing their project get interest and interaction. And then you don't have to list what you used when someone can simply spot something and reply, "I like the way you used Strive!" or "I didn't think of following this device with that device in the effect chain." etc.
Yep sounds good.joeyluck wrote: ↑07 Mar 2025I had suggested subforums.robussc wrote: ↑07 Mar 2025Here’s an idea that came to me from Tritone’s music post. Perhaps the music forum is too broad?
How about we split it into at least two? Music WIP and Music Final? (With better titles of course!)
Music final should just be notifications of Reason music that has been actually released, users aren’t necessarily expecting feedback, it’s just another marketing channel.
Music WIP is of course expecting feedback.
I think for now we can stick to being more descriptive in titles and posts. It's actually a good way to also encourage those who are posting music to also be involved and not just dump and run. I think people here have made good points about that—simply stating if you want feedback or not and if you're seeking feedback about something specific.

For me it’s.. I don’t like long titles. the shorter, the simpler, the better. Extra information is what the body of the post is for.
I don’t want to write: genre, song name, and a sentence of my expectations in the subject line. And I feel if everyone does that then the list of posts will look way too busy and unappealing. Boring to try to sort thru and thusly, neglected still.
I also don’t think that people posting finished songs don’t want feedback. I personally want feedback on anything I post. Otherwise what’s the point of sharing? It can be anything from “hey I love that song” to “hey the bass sounds weak” on a finished song and guess what? I will appreciate it either way because it’s mix advice to apply to my next song.
I think it’s safe to say everyone who posts would appreciate any attention they can get.
Lots of great ideas here on how to improve our actual Reason music community. It’s a conversation that’s been very needed for a long time. Let’s hype it up!

It doesn't necessarily have to be in the title. It's really up to the person posting how and what they want to convey when sharing something. It's really not different from starting other topics in the forum and how you want to encourage conversation. Context is good.JaceFace wrote: ↑07 Mar 2025For me it’s.. Perhaps just a [WIP] vs [FINAL] tag differentiator in the subject. And we expect [WIP] to have some clarification of what the poster wants in the body?

Yeah I think #1 makes the most sense. #3 might not affect much.
Couple of other ideas that would work:
1. Reciprocity: a rule where one should leave feedback for at least 1 other track before posting their own.
2. Weekly/monthly events:
- For example "Feedback Friday" where a bunch of active users get on and listen to each other's track and leave feedback. Sort of like a website culture people adhere to.
- Simple monthly challenges in a dedicated "Sticky" post where users post their tracks and must also leave at least 1 feedback. The themes would be simple, like "150 bpm challenge" or "Spring Beat Challenge" etc.
3. Reward active reviewers and contributors with special forum badges and ranks.
4. Host a monthly listening party on Discord. Each user plays their track and everybody on mic or in chat can comment before the next song.

If the aim is feedback to improve, ... It's less about the individual track and more about guiding a person's growth and development.
Sure, it's good to get an ear on what's good or bad, but I also just need to know how I can improve.
Isn't that the real point?
On one hand you have the learner, and up until now we've thought about the responses as a crowd sourced teacher.
Maybe we need to go all in and have a few mentors, coaches, guides, and teachers.
Or something.
And while the most skilled and experienced can only mentor one or a few at a time, ... If this was started 20 years ago, the first cohort of students could have signed 2 to 3 generations of apprentices and teachers.
So, while 20 years from now sounds like a long way away, it's going to happen anyway.
How many of you guys are mentoring? Because some have priceless skills and experience to pass down.
And while the content you do share is exceptional, the legacy will be complete when you take on an apprentice or two.
And then by 2045 we could have 100 active ULTRA ELITE students for each person today who becomes a mentor (assuming they and their descendants only mentor 3 at a time).

You know, there's a financial incentive for reviewing music.
It's easy content. You can create analyses for YouTube or medium or wherever, that could gain a following.
Bonus points if you can follow up with how your advice and guidance led to an improvement.
Someone somewhere is bound to make a comfortable living out of it.

Getting into that feed takes time—and let’s be real, most people don’t have much of that. I posted there a lot for a while. It was fun getting feedback... until it wasn’t.
Anyway, I’ll leave you with this classic:
How many guitarists does it take to change a light bulb?
Twelve. One to change it, and eleven to say they could’ve done it better.

One thing we could start typing in the title would be [Feedback Trading] - then when I get a comment, I'd return the favor.
Well it's actually in the forum's guidelines, which should apply to everything posted there

Although maybe not as direct as promising feedback for the exact person who gives you feedback.

If you're looking for interaction, there's an active synth users group on BlueSky. #Synthsky. Trust me, I’ve got a balance of 1.97 in my monetized music account—living the dream!
That said this forum is solid for troubleshooting and learning new techniques.

How about a text-smiliey that you'd add at the end of your post i.e. "Feedback Trading" and then you'd add a link to your release-topic right after it?
