Reason Outlook 2025...Is there a roadmap?

I think in the Reason 13 behind the scenes video, Matthias said they discarded the whole idea of a roadmap because things just changed too frequently. That said, they still based R13 around a core idea: Workflow. And I think it would be great to share that kind of general direction of a core idea at least which might help guide user input and feedback.

My guess is: bug fixes, damage control and browser improvements, one or two new paid REs, and if we're lucky some minor sequencer improvements.

On a more serious note some browser fire damage control would be fab, and personally as a preference, I have no real problems browser aside with doing what I need to do, so just feed me devices as even a change of scenery and a plethora of new presets as starting points and inspiration helps with creativity devicewise (thats why as a prue song creator and modest patch tweaker I tend to own a lot of similar overlapping devices as it encourages me to play). Polytone is brill. Do more of that.

I don't update anymore once I purchased Komplete 14 and got everything FINALLY working the way it suppose to I don't even open up Native Access anymore. They trick me with updating once before and I ended up having to buy a newer Macbook Pro to finally get Komplete Kontrol to load up libraries again. I would advise you do the same because that was a very frustrating and expensive time for me...Never Again

Learned lesson: create only expectations you are 100% sure to fulfill for everyone.

2. You can't share your library between machines easily.
3. Installation and updating is so damn slow.
4. Installation is flakey.

Is that all you got? I'll bet you can try harder and come up with a longer list. Why don't you give it some more thought.

Rs are not alone in this. I own the rapid vst synth and they have a road map to add msegs etc and I see no end of people moaning they are not there yet and claiming it abandonware. I'm thinking Steve duda may also regret being so open when asked about serum 2, creates expectation that cannot always be managed as people want stuff yesterday.

My biggest grip, apart from what a nightmare it is to remove Komplete from a machine without having to manually uninstall like 200 things, is that Kontakt instances;

A) Aren't backwards compatible (i.e. if you have a song you wrote in Kontakt 5, Kontakt 8 won't recall the same library - it's just gone forever)
B) Look to the library location at the time of saving the project, instead of where they're *currently* installed, so you have to manually specify it when opening old projects

I think it's just gotten too vast for its own good. Just a gradual accretion of old libraries and old systems and I guess re-coding it all in any meaningful manner at this point is infeasible. They know people need what they're selling so there's no incentive to shift away. Any new sample library is Kontakt by default so.

You’re both right. 100% There’s certainly an issue with expectations and angry users, and those that are just never satisfied, but I do think there’s something to be said for being more user guided with updates. Whether that’s a roadmap or User Voice voting forum or whatever.

I can’t say how the general RS user base feels but my impression from using the PUF forum since day dot and Reason Talk that there are features people have been asking for that are still unfulfilled. I love that RS do their own thing too, of course they have their own ideas and that’s awesome. You gotta strike a balance and have your own identity.

I don’t get involved with those conversations surrounding what’s still not implemented etc, and I don’t really care that much. I’m still a very amateur hobbyist and Reason offers than I could ever use as is – so new features and devices are just a bonus. Maybe that’ll change as I’m throwing myself into learning now but I digress.

I’m sure as developers it’s a difficult line to tread between being transparent about your progress and intentions and then coming through on those promises and avoiding disappointment. Without some form of public user voice / vote it’s hard to know what’s just minority complaints and what the broader community actually deems a necessity.

Again, I’m no developer or power user so perhaps I’m totally missing something.

Never had that problem.

The rest is true. Most of the time an update fails and I use the old Windows Install Repair to remove the endless amount of registry code.

Take any Native Instruments "roadmap" with a grain of salt. They do this every few years. They say "oh, we want to be more transparent and active with the community" and it usually lasts about a month or two until they go back to business as usual.

I am a Reaktor user and after reading NI's 2025 Outlook, I did not see any news about Reaktor. To be honest, I am disappointed because I have been waiting for a long time.
As for Reason's roadmap, I don't expect a lot. Of course, if they release the roadmap, I will still look forward to it, but I don't think it's that important to me. I think while discussing whether they will add some features in the future, Reason can also fix some bugs, such as high-definition magnification causing texture misalignment (Drum Sequencer Player has this problem), and so on.

Don't hold your breath. I'm actually surprised they (he) admitted it out in the open. Their usual M.O. is just to announce out of the blue that they are no longer supporting a product.

Mainly, I was also scared by the Absynth event. Think about these marginalized products, such as Massive, FM8, and Reaktor, but I don't think Reaktor will go to this point. The most likely thing is to keep it but not update it, while it's really hard to say for products like Massive and FM8.

There are really too many things from NI, and I don't think it's necessarily a good thing. Just like when I use Reason, I haven't bought or used any third-party plugins. Except for Reaktor, for the RE part, I basically use first party. Personally, I think having too many is a very frustrating thing for me.

Also, it's pretty outrageous that they are still charging $199 for a Reaktor that is no longer being developed. And, of course, they don't mention that anywhere on the Reaktor page.

Yes, my point being that it should always be discounted given the circumstances. I got rid of all my NI stuff save for Maschine a few years ago but every once in a while I think about picking up Reaktor again because there are so many cool and odd things from the User Library. But here's the thing - my "upgrade" price for Komplete Standard is $199 because I have an old Komplete 4 serial still registered in my account. So, do I spend $199 just for Reaktor or do I spend $199 and get all of the Komplete stuff. Seems like an easy decision, but I don't know if I want to get back on the NI roller coaster with Komplete.
