Midi Mixer Controller for Dub & Reggae

Want to talk about music hardware or software that doesn't include Reason?

Hi All,

I used Reason years ago to make music with the old Behringer controllers (BCR2000 & BCF2000).
Im getting back to music and life with Reason 13 so need to update my midi controllers!

I make Dub/Reggae music and looking for a controller to give me that analogue feel in the DAW.
Ideally I would have loved to use something like the, Allen & Heath ZED-R16 or Midas venice hybrid mixers but these are all Firewire and not supported on the newer Apple macs.

Can anyone suggest mixers with similar setup to above for DAW control in reason (midi mapped to controller).
On a smaller scale, I have looked at the Novation Control XL and the Akai Midimix, however the led buttons wont work with reason.
I reached out to Support and they said these controllers are not supported and that I should select one with Mackie Control Support.

Could you kindly suggest any mixers?
I need faders and pots (knobs) to emulate a hardward mixer for send fx etc

Look forward to hearing back!

1 Love,
Gdep

The BCR2000 & BCF2000 should still work reasonably well with Reason. Give it a try.

Thanks @jam-s, im looking for an upgrade to the the old behringers devices.
They seem pretty clunky and outdated now compared to the mixer desks i described above.
Any mackie control enabled 12/16/24 ch strip with faders n pouts would be great.

Closest I can see are the faderfox products but these seem expensive and not sure of compatibility with Reason?
Especially around the mute send / LED button midi assigns.

With some optimised Remote mappings the Behringer XTouch series seems to be quite good. There are some threads about those here in the forums. For example this thread here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=7515999

Behringer X Touch does not have enough pots/knobs for a live mix - which is a shame!
All roads are pointing to analogue desks lol

And that is not a bad thing…. If that enhances the workflow and end result, why not?

One has to use what is needed, and of course it should be affordable……

For DJ style mixes I'd rather use dedicated software like MIXXX and one of the supported controllers.
Depending on its MIDI implementation you might also be able to have it working with Reason after finding/writing a matching codec and RemoteMap.
