"Pro loudness"
Here we go again... : D
So this time I saw a thumbnail on youtube, where somebody bragged about getting "pro" loudness levels.
The funny part?
-11.8 LU was shown in green, -4.7 LU was in red (latter being the "pro").
Seriously people... Why and how is worse "better"? : )
Post shit to youtube with a -11.8 LU, and the volume won't be changed. Do the same at -4.7 LU, and in comparison, the music will sound like shit, pulled back by 7.3 dB, and thus that much burried into the noise floor (not like we can assume such content having any dynamics to begin with). And no, this isn't a case of "that's the sound they wanted", but they just wanted higher LU values, cause the louder, the "proer".
Honestly? At this point, "pro" indicates professional idiot.
People like that, better put the speakers and headphones away. Cut a bun in half. Put them on each ear. What do you get? ; ) (Gordon Ramsay reference).

Yes.
*fart*
Can't find the video for shit, but here's the thumb:
https://i.ytimg.com/vi/RpVhme-rQYg/hq720.jpg
Feel free to link the video if you can reverse search.
It looks like an honest thumb at least (stupid, but honest).
If the video is about something else, then the thumb is a screw over.
If it's true to it, then it's just stupid.
I ask in general to anyone reading: why am I supposed to respect clickbait, or stupidity? : D The "it's just business" and "youtube alg." "Daddy has to" etc. excuses are no answer.

There you go, that’s what I thought.
By all means, go ahead and watch every video that baits your attention. ; ) Just please don't ask me to watch it with you.

Ahem… I don’t do that. Which is I also why I don’t talk about videos I don’t watch, you know?
Thumbnails spread a message. They aren't just a 'book cover'. They provoke you. Maybe you just see it for a second, and your brain captures the info. It has a psychological effect on you. You may learn from that info, even if you didn't watch the video. You may accidentally learn the bullshit they spread.PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑19 Dec 2024Ahem… I don’t do that. At the same time, you may click it, see an Ad, and have your time wasted. Kind of a lose-lose situation.
And that's why I dare make fun of it.

You ignore that crap so much you have to make a post about it
Here you go, I found the video, and watched it.
My predictions were right here, too. As experienced in your thread.
Honest, stupid thumb, teaching stupid things. ...Oh, xcuseme, I mean "PRO" things.
But at least people tell him that it makes the music shit.
He should use Reason and start sounding less shit.
Oh, but to respond to you, it pops up in my feed. I decided to react, here.
I never said I ignore it, but I try to dodge the clickbait crap. Some can be made fun of, that's all. I made a satire, cause why not?
Yeah, I guess it's kinda un"PRO" to fight.
I need to stop being "amateur" and buy 125000$ mastur.. mastering speakers, too. And clip everything for flat dynamics, cause "PRO"z like skrillex do it that way. I used to do it the "PRO" way, too.
Nowadays I just do things the most efficient way possible, and make things sound as good as they can. Rocket science. : D Or dunno... common sense, maybe.

I’m not watching that, it also popped up on my feed but of course I skipped it. Anyway, where can I hear anything you’ve done?
Continue fighting, brothers and sistas!

Who’s using the royal plural now baby? 🧂
I was always under the impression that if you send a file louder than the volume a streaming service uses (eg - 14lufs) then the volume of your track is just turned down but if it is less it will be increased. I recall watching a Spotify video where they just mentioned leaving a dB or two (-1 or - 2) for the encoding process.
If you saw Benedict's mastering guide that I posted about, there's a near 10 year old song. : )PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑19 Dec 2024I’m not watching that, it also popped up on my feed but of course I skipped it. Anyway, where can I hear anything you’ve done?
I still did a bit of "PRO" things back then though.
Maybe in a few months I'll start posting.
I spent the years studying, researching, getting into science. By the time I got ready, AI will render making music useless. x D It was still a fun journey though!
Maybe I'll modernize that old song. You probably saw it.
I didn't get much of a fighting feel, to be honest. : ]motuscott wrote: ↑19 Dec 2024Continue fighting, brothers and sistas!

Yes, they do that. -12 LU for YT.Popey wrote: ↑20 Dec 2024I was always under the impression that if you send a file louder than the volume a streaming service uses (eg - 14lufs) then the volume of your track is just turned down but if it is less it will be increased. The headroom is for... oof, what was it called... something-something intersample peaks/modulation, or something alike. Point is, that during conversion, there's a chance that things will clip a little, when squeezed perfectly to the 0 dB ceiling.
-1 dB for iT, IIRC. But some say, 0.2 dB headroom is enough.
Some mastering limiters have a button for taking care of this.
Normally, if quieter than the target, then your music just gets normalized. They won't start limiting an orchestral or jazz piece. Hopefully.

That’s silly talk about “Ai”.RobC wrote: ↑20 Dec 2024If you saw Benedict's mastering guide that I posted about, there's a near 10 year old song. : )PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑19 Dec 2024I’m not watching that, it also popped up on my feed but of course I skipped it. I’ll check it out but I’m not very interested in a 10 year old song I want to hear what you make now, at the top of your game.
