From madmacman:

Open console, navigate to vst folder, then enter the following command:
Code: Select all

xattr -d com.apple.quarantine <filename>
Replace <filename> with the actual filename of pg-8x plugin. If that doesn‘t work, you can add a ‚sudo‘ before:
Code: Select all

sudo xattr -d com.apple.quarantine <filename>
Then you‘ll be asked for your user password.

So after an exhaustive amount of time trying to get PG-8x to work on my Mac (Monterey), huggermugger sent me the files she uses and voila, I am able to use PG-8x again on the Mac... but there is a catch... I can not use it in Reason, nor in Ableton Live. I did all the sudo & attr stuff (I've not a novice to using these commands) and nothing works for getting PG-8x into Reason. I CAN however use it in Bitwig and FL Studio quite happily. So no ReFill for me, but at least I can make my own patches now.

Hi Bitley, I've gone ahead and purchased the PG-8x ReFill as I can use it with my Windows version of PG-8x. Looking forward to the download.

Curious you can't use it in Reason. Does Reason not even recognize it? I have no problem in R12 (nor previous versions of Reason), though I can't vouch for R13.

Can it be connected to macOS version this issue? What are you using there huggermugger? I know I had issues with PG8X back in the Catalina days but not since then.

I'm using Sonoma. It also worked fine in Mojave and Monterey.

Great info, although I have no clue why it doesn't work for a few here. Have they placed the plug in the wrong directory? Any ideas are most welcome. Also good to know if someone had an issue but solved it with the Terminal hack. Please always mention OSes and Reason versions.

I'm on MacOS Monterey 12.3.1 and for Reason, and Ableton Live, the terminal hack doesn't work. I have the same .vst as huggermugger as she kindly sent me a copy of the VST, and now it only works for Bitwig, FL Studio, and Reaper.

I bought the WB PG8X ReFill yesterday and it works in Reason on Windows and my very old Macbook Pro 17. I took a look a the ML web site, and there is definitely something off with the plugin which doesn't seem to have been updated in a long time.

On my MacBook Air, it thew up a security warning and recommended I trash the .VST altogether. It sucks not being able to use it on my MacMini M1 which is about 10x faster than my Windows machine. So as to be able to use the lovely WB PG8X ReFill I will have to use Windows or my MBPro to really get to play with the Reason stuff.

Here endeth the rant.

SUCCESS!!!

I had a chance to check out Martin Luder's Facebook Group, and the answer to my problems seems to be fixed now thanks to the comments section.

I'm on an MacMini M1... and the VST doesn't seem work with silicon, so by putting Reason 12 in Rosetta mode, I can now use the "WAY BEYOND PG-8X" ReFill on both my MacMini M1. As for my MacBook Air 2015, I found a crashed "PG-8x.vst" in the "Manage Plugins" window. Enabled it, and the PG-8x works on it as well.

Close Reason if it is open

Go to your Applications folder

Find the Reason 12.app or Reason 13.app or whatever version you have.

Right click on the app and look for the checkbox for "Open using Rosetta"

Close the pop-up window.

Start up Reason.

It will likely scan through a bunch of VSTs if you have them, let it run. Occasionally you may see a pop up with a message, just click on each one if you encounter them.

When it is finished scanning, it will start up Reason.

Check for any VSTs you might have, as the scan may have not been able to keep the VSTs.

I used Reason 12 to get the PG-8x to work and I'm so far gone into Reason 13 that I don't really use Reason 12 anymore, but now I'll use it for PG-8x. Just don't have both apps open at the same time, if you have both Reason 12 and Reason 13

Hope this helps.

PG-8X doesn't seem to support Apple Silicon (M1 etc) natively yet, and you're probably running Reason in the native mode, so it won't find the plugin. In order to use the plugin in Reason you must start Reason in "Rosetta Mode" (right-click on Reason's app icon and choose Get Info, you should see a checkbox to enable/disable Rosetta).

and probably never will. The source code is still not published under Open Source and the discussion about this has been going on for years (over there at KvR). I wouldn’t hold my breath.
