Did you try to manually de-quarantine it?

Open console, navigate to vst folder, then enter the following command:

Code: Select all

xattr -d com.apple.quarantine <filename>
Replace <filename> with the actual filename of pg-8x plugin. If that doesn‘t work, you can add a ‚sudo‘ before:

Code: Select all

sudo xattr -d com.apple.quarantine <filename>
Then you‘ll be asked for your user password.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Creativemind, that's true of course.

Money: I just placed the vst in libraries / audio / plugins / VST

My computer hasn't asked for validation as far I can recall.

Just saw madmacman's post; excellent info there, thank you!

Sorry, yes - Terminal. „Console“ is a false friend for non-native speakers.

And the greater than/less than symbols are a habit for a placeholder. Ignore them and try:

Code: Select all

 xattr -d com.apple.quarantine PG-8X.vst
EDIT: Oh, and you should first navigate to the folder where the plugins are located. But I‘m currently away from my Mac. Will have to look tomorrow where to go.

I have this plugin fo so long now: Does it come with an installer (pkg file) or as plain vst file which you have to copy to the correct destination folder? Then I could check out the correct folder - and prepare a ready-to-use command.

In case anyone else has problems getting Reason 12 on Big Sur to recognize the PG-8X VST:

The workarounds above didn't work for me.
Meaning, I first copied the vst to /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/PG-8X.vst
and then did the xattr thing, but no luck.

I then copied the VST to my users Library, instead of the root Library folder: (my username is "mystudio")
From the Terminal, login to root (i e "sudo su -")
Then:
cp -R /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/PG-8X.vst ./Users/mystudio/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST.
Restarted Reason, immediately showed up under Instruments.

Does PG-8X work on Windows 11 & R12 for any of you out there?
It doesn't load the VST for me, and I've tried adding full permissions for my user account on the dll.

It works for me on Win 10 and Reason 12.
Have you tried copying the dll into another folder that doesn't need admin rights and then specifying this folder in Reason's preferences for the vst path? Maybe this will work..

This gave me hope.
Thanks for that good suggestion - but I found the problem now, it was a PEBKAC error:
I downloaded the 32 bit version instead of the 64 bit version

Hi guys! It's not cheap, correct observation, as it's actually extremely large and took a long long time to create. There's a patch list on the page for it. https://bitleysounds.com/index.php/way-beyond-pg8x/

For clarification, this link does not appear to show a patch list - can you update the link to show the intended patch list please? (Especially considering past conversations, trying to keep things on topic here).

Thanks again for this, wondering if this helps the guy in the vst section, highlighting by quoting this.

I don't know if it's necessary but try if you've got PG8X hiccups. The plug is the best one!

Hi Bitley

What are the differences between WBF R2 and WB PG8X?
I own the former.

Hi! The deal is over to begin with! :-)

They are totally different; just that the PG-8X comes with a pretty large sample library as a luxurious add-on that made it possible to make some patches richer sounding. It doesn't have any of the WBF R2 sounds but a few add on patches for it. PG-8X emulates Roland JX-8P, a synth I have used a lot over the years, so I built all my JX-8P tones into it. JX-10 and MKS-70 are two Roland machines built on the design of two JX-8P voice cards and a controller card, and they practically are two 8P machines in one. I built sounds for JX-10 as well, back in the day, so all those patches are also reprogrammed into the PG-8X plugin by help of a combinator design that uses two PG-8Xes per sound as a basic foundation. Some more huge patches also play back samples. That is the basic layout. Effects and Combinator buttons & knobs are also assigned for easy user tweakability just as in WBF R2.

Thanks for the thorough answer!

I knew about the impressive JX part of it but thought the add-on patches were taken from WBF R2.
It's good to know that there is no overlap between the two.

P.S. I've spent all my BF allowance money by now anyway :shifty:

Thanks! I have lowered the price back to $49. It was over three times more expensive before.
