looking for pitch-based eq and compressor
hi together,
is there an eq that works with pitch descriptions insted of frequencies or numbers?
like. if i want to filter out all c3 content, i can easily do that without consulting a chart? or even better, the option to eq out certain waveforms like a saw with c3 base frequency?
an as further question, id love the same thing as compressor, like a compressor that analyzes the frequencies of an incoming sidechain signal and only compresses those frequencies in the main signal?
thanks for you input.

First one that comes to mind... err.. only one i know of, i guess!

Enough googlin and im sure there's cheaper or even free ones. Hope that helps

The second one, the “compressor” is a dynamic eq, no?
Coloring EQ by Selig displays note as well as freq

ColoringEQ filters by note by default, but you’re going to need AI to do fancy stuff like identifying a saw wave and removing it WITHOUT also removing everything else at those same frequencies.PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑22 Nov 2024The second one, the “compressor” is a dynamic eq, no?

Curious what your use-case is for such things?
Selig Audio, LLC
Oh yeah ColoringEQ does have the keys there.PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑22 Nov 2024The second one, the “compressor” is a dynamic eq, no?

Yeah now that you mention it , i would say 2nd request it's closer to "sidechain compression"? it's just that he just wants it to focus on freq (by key)
So maybe once ScalerEQ or ColorEQ had your info - you could then filter/target that in the S.C.Compressor? (or use another "Note" eq on that compressor itself)
Maybe it has to be a multi-band comp using just one band? (prob a reason we dont have by note compressors, idk)
Sorry if im not understanding right guys! Im just thinking thru it, only 1 coffee so far. I'm sure Selig will set us straight! (Edit: there he is - and quick too!)

Melda's free EQ (in the Free Bundle) optionally displays a keyboard and live note/frequency feedback at the cursor. It also has a drum zone display and octaves display. It's pretty great especially since it's free.

Isn’t that a dynamic eq though? Whatever band you pick will react and duck (or increase in gain) whenever it receives a signal from another track via the side chain input? ♂️-008' wrote: ↑22 Nov 2024Oh yeah ColoringEQ does have the keys there.PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑22 Nov 2024The second one, the “compressor” is a dynamic eq, no?

Also Pro-Q3 has this but pricey.
Yeah I agree, it kinda sounds the same to me too, on paper.PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑22 Nov 2024Isn’t that a dynamic eq though? Whatever band you pick will react and duck (or increase in gain) whenever it receives a signal from another track via the side chain input? ♂️
But don't ask me!! Any music tech knowledge I have was all learned in SPITE of my brain.

I hear you, I fried my brain in my youth so it’s surprising I have managed to learn anything-008' wrote: ↑23 Nov 2024Yeah I agree, it kinda sounds the same to me too, on paper.PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑22 Nov 2024Isn’t that a dynamic eq though? Here are two really good sources of info. The first one, from Izotope, is a little bit technical but well written. The second one is a Reddit thread with plenty of 'man-in-the-street' answers.

thanks a lot for your responses, folks!
the easiest example would be lets say a waveform with an extremely rich, maybe noisy timbre with fundamental of c3. now i want a different, simpler waveform, maybe a sine with a little additional content in the high mids and a fundamental of a3. i want all timbral content of the first waveform removed where the second waveform has any content to avoid masking. so i would need a (dynamic) EQ which analyzes the incoming waveform and removes its frequencies from the first one. this would be even more handy if you play melodies with the second waveform.
an easier version of this could be achieved if you had an Eq that can be set to standard pitches manually or has some waveform presets.
i hope this is written understandably.
the case-use is polymetrics. different instruments at similar frequencies will meet at certain points yet all need to be clearly audible. it can be bad to use only one EQ setting for the whole track because it might sound thin while you only hear one instrument. compression on the other hand might be too broad. all of what i describe here can of course be done by hand but its just a ton of work.selig wrote: ↑22 Nov 2024ColoringEQ filters by note by default, but you’re going to need AI to do fancy stuff like identifying a saw wave and removing it WITHOUT also removing everything else at those same frequencies.PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑22 Nov 2024The second one, the “compressor” is a dynamic eq, no?

yes it basically is a dynamic eq, or a frequency-sensitive compressor. i "just" want it to analyze the incoming sidechain for frequency content and pick the bands accordingly. so lets say a kickdrum is the sidechain and a deep saw melody gets compressed - the device would automatically only cut the frequencies of the kick, like sub-100hz and the click from the melody.PhillipOrdonez wrote: ↑22 Nov 2024Isn’t that a dynamic eq though?
