Rec arm tracks from the mixer

Have any feature requests? No promise they'll get to Reason Studios, but you can still discuss them here.

They could put an “R” button by solo and mute.

And which track in the sequencer sjould go into record? Because not all mix channels have tracks in the sequencer unless you add them. It’s only audio tracks that would/could work this way in Reason. Plus, there is the opposite situation, where you have tracks in the sequencer with no mixer channel, such as when you automate a rack extension or use a MIDI out device.
Then there are devices that can have multiple tracks in the mixer, but only one track in the sequencer like ReDrum/NNXT/Kong/Dr.OctaRex/etc. which would make things very confusing I would think…

The “problem” behind implementing such things (which have been suggested many times) is this total lack of a direct link between tracks in the sequencer and channels in the mixer. It’s a double edged sword IMO, because it’s handy to have this independence, but also can lead to confusion in many cases.

I believe the history of how we find ourselves in this place has to do with how the Big Mixer was added to the existing Reason sequencer/rack paradigm. I’m not sure they really had many options considering how open ended the rack is by design. The only way they could have prevented this from happening would have been to change the way the rack worked, such that every device would have to be forced to “belong” to a mixer channel and sequencer track instead of being “free range” so to speak.

Or to put it another way, if it was designed from the ground up to include both audio and MIDI tracks, instead of starting out one way and then later on adding the other feature (as so many other DAWs have also done), it would have had a chance of being better integrated IMO. There are SO many “could’ve/would’ve” possibilities, but for now at least we are pretty much stuck with this paradigm.

Thank you for your well detailed answer and I apologize in advance for such a short reply. But audio tracks and mix tracks are already labeled so why not just put an R button on the audio tracks?

Seems like it really wouldn’t be a big deal
