Hello all,

I'm currently using macOS Big Sur 11.7.7 and Reason 12.6.1.

Are there any macOS (intel cpu users) out there who can give me any feedback on whether it's worth updating to Ventura ?

I'm trying to wring more life out of my 2019 MacBook Pro.

Thanks in advance.

If you're using the computer online, updating to Ventura would at least give you some online security, as Apple supports their last three operating systems. I'm using Sonoma on a 2019 iMac (though I didn't voluntarily update to Sonoma lol), and it works well.

I'm currently in the process of selling my MacBook Pro 2019 (music is only a hobby and I "need" the new architecture), but I used it with Studio One 6 and Reason 12 without major issues. I had the i7 model with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD - so I wasn't running short of power (but at the "cost" of loud fan noise).

That being said: I never faced major issues with more recent operating systems. As a rule of thumb (regarding plugins, and overall software compatibility in the music world) always stay one version behind the most recent release. So while Sequoia is basically compatible with your hardware, I just installed the predecessor Sonoma 7-8 weeks ago with the release of Sequoia. That keeps you on the safe side.

I'm on macOS 12.7.6 Monterey, the latest version that my 2015 MacBook Air will support and using Reason 13.

Seeing a post about trying to get more life out of a 2019 MacBook Pro...you've got many years left.

No kidding. I'm on a 2012 MBP and the thing still flies.

Believe it or not, my 2009 MacBook Pro 17" beast still runs both Reason 12 and 13 fantastically, along with almost all the VSTs I have. It died a long while back but I got it resurrected, and put in a 1TB SSD drive.

I'm on a 2018 2.6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 mac with 16GB RAM and I'm on Sequoia 15.1. Everything still runs great in general. Reason and plugins etc, make the fans crank, but it's still completely usable.

I am however, looking forward to upgrading, having seen the performance etc of the new M chips.

I've built 2 desktops that are probably 10 years old. Sure it wold be a struggle if I wanted to do 200 tracks, then there is reality and bragging rights.
If you don't really need a laptop consider the Mac Mini
