Is this 1/2 time signature around 170bpm? I’m on the train with earbuds and the mix is pretty tight. Lots of cool sounds keeping my attention.
Lyrics are “I’m in my car dancing”. Makes me wanna dance but I don’t wanna look like a fool rn haha cool track.

This is very cool. If I was still a dnb dj I would have bought it on vinyl if I had heard it in a shop, can't say anything better than that.
Very solid tune.

Timing wise... it's a bit of a mash up with some elements being half time and others not - hence it's not easy to tell what timing I am locked into to. I just created elements that felt right for the moment in the track and didn't follow "standard" dnb genre conventions.Last Alternative wrote: ↑24 Oct 2024Is this 1/2 time signature around 170bpm? Hectic little stomper.
The mix is tight. The outro is bonkers

Tight mix. Drums sound very crisp on my monitors.
Nice bass sounds in there too.
A few too many sirens and horns for my taste, but otherwise lovin' it.

Thanks! Trying to keep such a hectic mix tight is what I was after... and super pleased you approve.

Glad you approve! Totally agree about too many sirens and horns. This was my first session with it... did it all in one sitting. Needs me to go back and take away some superfluous and repetitive elements.
Thanks for your points and glad you like the overall tight mix.

Would like to hear the revised version.
What synth(s) are you using for the bass?
Sounds good.

The bass was a single sample hit that I used. Just cut and pasted the single sample to make a bass sequence - frequency and length changes as required. It went through multiple processors after that, including FF Volcano (two of them) using audio event follower to give it a resonance snap.
Created a bus off the bass and had a verb/delay (Valhalla VintageVerb and D16 Tekturon) just on the mid to high frequency. Automated the volume of this to come in and out as required.
Then merged the dry and verb/delay busses together.
On that I then ran through Shaperbox to glitch up the volume. I split the volume glitch in Shaperbox, so that the high frequencies were much less glitchy (same volume path - just less obvious) - hence the bass sequence doesn't appear to "sound" that glitchy. Used quite a bit of automation to change the event follower amount in Volcano and frequency over 8 bars.
Then compressed it all using FF Pro-MB, FF Pro-L2, Leapwing DynOne, TDR Elliptical, SSL Bus Compressor 2, sonible smart:comp 2, and finally SSL Fusion. Each compressor was just chipping away at the overall sound to make it sound big but not overbearing the mixdown. Oh - and used Wavesfactory Trackspacer and the low end of FF Pro-MB side-chained to the kickdrum,to sculpt the bass around the kickdrum.
Probably didn't need all of those FX on the bass - was just experimenting and this is what I ended up with! However, the verb/delay bus was essential - otherwise the whole thing sounds dead.
