Clip ID

Have any feature requests? No promise they'll get to Reason Studios, but you can still discuss them here.

Just an idear, maybe it exists in some way or another already

It would be nice to be able to add a clip ID, Alpha Numeric, and when that clip is copied, when you make a change (midi notes and else) all clips with that ID would reflect that change

At all times the clips with the same ID would be identical, and if you change the clip ID after copy, then the clip is unlinked to the others.

Just an idear, since I dont know how reason was build, I dont know how feasable this is.

It's a pain sometimes when you finish you clip, copy it all over and then make a change, you need to find out all the clip and delete paste or edit the copied clips manually.

Have you tried using blocks?

Any clips you create in blocks act as you are describing with clip ID. A clip edited in a block is reflected in all blocks of that type. For example, when you make a change to a clip in your Verse block, all Verse blocks update to reflect that change.

If you haven’t used blocks before I wrote a bit of a how to in a recent post:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7535366

Hopefully that works for what you had in mind. Blocks is a pretty neat feature.

Yeah as Toki says Blocks is probably the closest we have to this in Reason, although it applies to entire sections of song rather than on a per track/per clip basis. Otherwise you'd maybe have to use a sequencer player and do all your editing in that, so you reference patterns rather than MIDI clips.

But yes, it's a good idea. What you're describing exists in other DAWs, namely Cubase (ghost copies) and Logic (aliased copies). Probably others too!

Pro Tools "Mirrored MIDI Editing", LUNA not supported yet (but is still on version 1 as of 10/24). This is such a useful function, and Reason could probably do it in an even more useful way, if only… ;(

The reason I would prefer clip ID is that clip ID would not be for a single track/note lane/automation

Sometimes you may have multiple synths on different tracks doing the same midi/automation for some parts of the song, let's say for 3 bars, synth 1, 2 and 3 are playing the same Clip ID but on bar 4, you create a new clip just for Synth 3.
