It looks like a bad idea to me.

They tried to jump on the bandwagon but it looks like they might have jumped the shark instead.

What does it mean to jump the shark? That they released a product that will totally dominate the entry level market with a standalone sketch device, making the circuits kinda irrelevant now? Then yes they seem to have jumped the shark! 😅

It’s pretty powerful for what it is meant to be. It’s not going to be a piece of the studio but it appeals to the idealistic «couch sessions» we all dream of, or the totally unrealistic «on the go» sessions. It’ll sell like pancakes. I’m waiting to see how it actually controls live in controller mode to decide whether I’ll get it or not. I don’t need a sketch pad, I got plenty of that, so only depending on how it behaves as controller will be the deciding factor for me, cause I don’t want a push and I don’t use live session view 😂

An issue that also keeps me from getting it is it seems to be really clicky, and if I’m going to use it on the couch I need it to be silent 🤷‍♂️

But if the pads had been MPE I would have bought it already 😂

I can see its potential value because under the hood it has a similar CPU as the MPC One/Live/X and Akai Force with the same amount of RAM. And it's very portable, so maybe it will be a great device for portable music making.

I can see its potential, but I think they could have delivered a much better no-brainer product.

Sharky is happy and mad at the same time. Just like the people's reactions.

Ableton Move will be fine for decades. Some people don't like the pads, same as Push 2, but as long as you have fixed velocity as an option it's cool.
Same CPU as the MPC, or better?

Very tempting to buy a better version of Figure in the (plastic) flesh

Have Live, hate Live, but this product is viable gateway hardware for people who like Live's workflow and are balling on a budget.

Folks that have seems to love it.

It seems really limited but I saw a vid where they used a drum track for all 4 lanes. Each drum track can have 32 samples and each pad can be played chromatically which means you have 128 monophonic pitched samples. That’s quite a lot.

I think each drum track can have 16, not 32. Still more than enough for a solid idea with all the elements it needs in place.

Definitely the device isn’t as limited as the track count makes it seem at first.

For sure. Just look at the sort of thing Jon Makes Beats creates with even simpler devices.

Maybe I'm the one who jumped the shark, because it does provide the sort of scratchpad I like.

My reservations are because I'm imagining what it would be like navigating and editing Live patches with this thing (and also its lack of support for using Push as a controller because it does not support high speed USB).

I’ve only seen him using the mpc or the octatrack with very high end synths so idk, though of course great things can be made with simple devices.

Now, considering this want made for sound design, and also knowing you can import your own patches into this thing, I don’t see any issue with your first point, second, considering it is a sketch pad, not having push control it sounds like why would you even want to control it with push? It’s not for finishing tanks it’s just for starting ideas and then fleshing them out to finished tracks in live 😅

Marlow turning into old man yells at clouds when things don’t work the way he thinks they should 😂 if only he soloed the pad he could resample just that pad , but he didn’t think of it 😂

The move is a simple sketchpad based on the ableton note, don’t expect more of it than it was designed for and you wont be disappointed. It’s not meant to replace the mpc, it’s an on the couch sketchpad that feels much better than your phone or iPad for starting ideas and noodling, then it syncs to your studio via WiFi so it can stay on the couch or your bag and you can continue working on the big boy tools later in the studio. Dope.

I definitely agree with the silly limitations on EVERY sampler and hardware device. It feels everything is kneecapped for the sake of… capitalism? 🥱 fuck that.
