Hey ya'll,
I took the feedback from my first synthwave track and incorporated it into this. WDYT? Improvement, or nah...
Side Note: This is my first time programming my own sounds from scratch. I'm usually a preset warrior, but wanted to have a crack at sound design this time. The sounds I didn't create were the drums and the choir sound you'll hear is from Humana.
Synths Used:
-FM8
-Synapse Obsession (had a ton of fun programming in this)
Drums:
-Linn LM1 by the guys over at Samples From Mars
(Synthwave "My 2nd Attempt") Until Dawn

Love this. Sounds great listening on my headphones, brilliant full sound and really uses stereo well. Thats a very cool moment at 1.53, especially the deep synth that comes in then. Brings an excellent feeling of depth. The track flows well. Respect to you for jumping into creating sounds from scratch, you've done a real good job with it.

This makes me feel like I'm listening to Ibiza 99 the year of trance CD. From the synths to the snare builds. Sounds dope.

Wow.. thanks for the kind words! This track was challenging for me from start to finish, but I'm glad to have completed it.WolfZeit wrote: ↑12 Oct 2024Love this. Thanks for listening and the compliment. I'm going to have to have a listen to that Ibiza 99 tape. I've never heard it. Hopefully I can find it on Spotify or Youtube.Rene Disco wrote: ↑13 Oct 2024This makes me feel like I'm listening to Ibiza 99 the year of trance CD. From the synths to the snare builds. Sounds dope.

I would say the sound design sounds quite good to me. My favorite part is at 1:30 with the toms haha. For the hook at 1:53 I probably would have put some kind of gating effect maybe Alligator or another plugin like Devious Infiltrator or Shaperbox on the second melody that goes higher, not on the first part melody. Just my opinion it would give a nice effect. Overall I dig it. Nice balanced and lush mix and I like that the snare is on the quieter side. I really don't like loud snares for some reason so I tend to make them as quiet as possible haha

You’re a very good sound designer. I’m impressed. This tune is way cleaner than the other one I commented. They’re both cool but from that to this shows major improvement. Smooth build. Excellent mix.

TY very much for listening and the critique. Alligator is one of the devices that I never got really acquainted with. I tried it out when it, pulverizer and the echo first came out and it just didn't click with me like the other two did. But, I think you're right. This style of music could benefit greatly from it so I'ma need to learn how to use it. There's no time like the present.tomusurp wrote: ↑24 Oct 2024I would say the sound design sounds quite good to me. My favorite part is at 1:30 with the toms haha. TY for listening to both of the tracks. Even though I studied up, the first one was me sort of throwing stuff at the walls to see what would stick. Shooting in the dark if you will. By the time I got halfway through the mix down I kinda wanted to just be done as I was over it by then. After the feedback (and a break) I started from scratch and put some love into the second try and I'm glad I did. Your compliments (and everyone else's) made this little experiment worth it. Thank You All Again!!!Last Alternative wrote: ↑25 Oct 2024You’re a very good sound designer. I’m impressed. This tune is way cleaner than the other one I commented. Very nice job dialing in your own sounds. The arrangement is well done and the drums keep interest as the song progresses. The lead line became a little repetitive midway through, but I do like how you added variations in the instruments to keep things fresh. One thing that could help with the leads would be throwing in some automations to evolve the sound over time if you didn't want to expand or modify the melody.
Relax. Listen to some music.

Thanks... I think.
Thanks for listening. Someone else commented that I should try alligator on one of the sounds to add variation as well so I'll keep that and your automation suggestion in mind if I decide to continue with this style of music. I've learned a lot from posting here and getting critiques and tips from you guys so many thanks to all of you.strangers wrote: ↑02 Nov 2024Very nice job dialing in your own sounds. Would be nice with subtle change in the intro.
Overall very good sound design!
The lead sounds a little bit repetetive/overused to me, but that might be the sound you want so a matter of taste.
I like the sad & haunting reverbed chord stabs!
A nice piece of work.

The sound mix is really good here. Some harmonies are colliding a bit but that might not matter so much anymore these days, in fact it raised my attention lol.
