Either I am very stupid or I'm missing something!
I have a guitar audio track.
I can F6 and drag into the Insert FX slot Reason Sounds > Combinator Patches > Effect Device Patches > Dynamics > Guitars > FAT Attack.cmb, Reason wires it in automatically and it affects the guitar sound of my track. Yay!
I can F6 and drag into the Insert FX slot Reason Sounds > Combinator Patches > Guitar and Plucked > Electric Guitar > Gt Polly Harvey.cmb and ....nothing. It's not wired in automatically! I then wire it manually to the Audio track (The track 'L' of 'To Device' to the Combinator Input 'L', Combinator Outputs to the 'From Device' L and R) and still nothing!
So what am I doing wrong (Reason 12 btw)?
Thanks in advance
Jon
Combinators don't work?
You are trying to insert an instrument Combinator into an FX slot. Instruments have no “inputs” unlike FX, so there is nothing to connect on the “To Device”.jonbpm wrote: ↑28 Sep 2024Either I am very stupid or I'm missing something!

Instruments need to be dragged into empty space in the Rack, not into inserts, so that a Mix Channel (NOT an audio track) is created. That said, what you’re doing works, but you won’t hear anything until you PLAY the instrument you loaded - make sense?
Would be interested in learning what you expected to happen in these cases…

OK, I get it, thanks for the explanation.
The intent was that I thought, with a name like 'Cocteau Guitar', that adding it to my guitar audio track would give me a ton of FX to give a passing resemblance to Robin Guthrie's sound!
In fact, what I've just realised is that I can add the combinator to the audio track, F6 and flip the rack and take out the NN-XT so that the Insert FX 'To device' of the Audio goes straight into the first FX of the chain. So now it works as I was expecting in the first place!
Thanks for your help!

Yes that's it. Suggestion, save that combi patch on the userlybrary and you can reuse it when needed!jonbpm wrote: ↑28 Sep 2024OK, I get it, thanks for the explanation.

Cocteau Guitar is an awesome preset. Nothing else to add here. Just wanted to comment on this classic preset.
