The Mods section is very cool. Nice idea.

Reason uses use an orthogonal projection for the 3D, notice that all knobs are equally presented without any perspective.
Yeah I actually like this. Often VSTs with '3d perspective' feel odd to use, because although you're essentially sitting directly in front of the device, half the knobs are pointing off to the sides.

Like he Clicks knob here > https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/imag ... e31c5.jpeg

But .. sorry, back to topic.. Yes the mods section really give the device more depth to play with.

Update: DM-999 Drum Machine Nears Release!

The DM-999 Drum Machine has undergone several iterations since the first video in this thread. All the drum sounds have been tuned and adjusted to match the original as closely as possible, while the MOD options have been refined to offer more range and flexibility.

This emulation is what I like to call "close enough and beyond"—meaning it's quite good at replicating the classic sounds while also providing a lot of additional tonal possibilities. All based on the circuit schematics to replicate each sound. Overall, I’m very pleased with how it turned out and can’t wait for the release!

Scheduled for Monday, September 9th, I wanted to give you a sneak peek of some of its sounds now already. Check them out here: https://on.soundcloud.com/fgA9Lh7r27c3YVfMA

(It's a private playlist, but I think the link should work!)

The DM-999 will include 50 kits with custom tunings and all 7 shuffle settings of the original as ReGroove files (captured via MIDI and converted to ReGroove). Programming is preferably done in the sequencer (C1-D#2) where ReGroove can be applied, or with a ReDrum hooked up via gate/CV.

DM-888 – Yes, I'll certainly do an attempt and see if I can get close enough, I think it should be possible!

I haven't done a manual since it's pretty straight forward, but I thought I'd share a simple list of the location of sounds on the keyboard (equals the notes a 909 uses to trig via midi):

C1: Bass Drum
C#1: Rim Shot
D1: Snare Drum
D#1: Clap
E1: Snare Drum
F1: Low Tom
F#1: Closed Hi Hat
G1: Low Tom
G#1: Closed Hi-Hat
A1: Mid Tom
A#1: Open Hi Hat
B1: Mid Tom
C2: High Tom
C#2: Crash Cymbal
D2: High Tom
D#2 : Ride Cymbal

Happy 909 day! I updated the title of the thread, unless you all want to create a separate thread for the release.

Some additional info!

Chromatic playing
Outside the trigger Keys (below C1 and above D#2) BassDrum, HiHats & Cymbals can be played chromatically with full velocity range.
This is the mapping:

Closed Hi Hat
E2-A3 Root = D3

Open Hi Hat
A#3 - D5 Root = F#4

Crash
D#5 - G6 Root = B5

Ride
G#6 - G8 Root = E7

Velocity and Accents
Velocity is "quantized" into three levels:
0-63 Weak / 64-100 Normal / 101-127 Accented
An accented note has the same strength as a normal note + the value set by the Accent knob.
Chromatic notes is not quantized, they use the full range.

There is now a simple manual available here:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/m6haujyb ... or6k5&dl=0

And a quick demo here:

And templates/presets for Drum Sequencer and BeatMap Players here:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/scw1t3ob ... vwz5w&dl=0

A few of the Drum Sequencer templates is included in the RE "factory directory" but since R13 won't let you browse files that easily I recommend to first load a player, then open the browser from its patchbrowser button and search for "999". This also goes for the included ReGroove files, open ReGroove Mixer, press open and search for "999" to find the .grov files. "Shuffle-1" isn't really shuffle but the straight option, however the 909 has some timing quirks and those are captured in this file.

Cheers!

This should be highlighted I think.

Here, one of the top RE makers having to explain a workaround to use an included feature/file, because the latest software version - one which it's highlight feature was supposed to be a better browser - apparently isn't that great at browsing for some stuff.. Is it really this bad in R13? :|

Maybe sounded a bit worse than it is. It's really not too bad, the browser is really quick and snappy - but it will only display files compatible with the device that you opened the browser from. I hope they'll add an option to "browse all files" in an update.

Just a question out of curiosity. Why not have the sounds lined up on the keyboard as it is on the drum machine? Like this doesn't make sense to me: C1: Bass Drum C#1: Rim Shot D1: Snare Drum D#1: Clap -- Rim Shot and Clap are way earlier on the ⌨ Maybe you see it differently or there is a rule that I don't know of , so please share :) Love the machine, just asking.

It uses the same mapping as the 909 - I don't know why they lined it up that way but I thought it would be nice to use the same keys =)

Isn’t this just the General Midi spec for drum kits?

Ahh I see. Yes, understandable, I can see why they did that, but indeed an “all file types” option would make sense. Thanks. Hopefully I’ll be able to demo the 999 this weekend 😀
