Yeah, that's right, Subtractor.
This combinator uses stock and free devices (Unison, Formant filter and Ring Mod).
I actually use it a lot for (low CPU) pads and plucks.

Indeed, well thought out and intuitive. So much so that it could be a great tool, too, for a novice to understand what FM 'sounds like' and how to manipulate it.

I think, FM is one of the most powerful type of modulation.

One thing I never tried with Subtractor, was trying to chain multiple instances, to try to create multi-operator FM, but I guess it's not really possible, since its pitch can't be modulated at audio rate, just CV.

I have native inst FM8, Algoritm, Arturia's DX-7, Blamsoft Zero, Wave's Flow Motion and others...and I usually end up using the FM function in Surge XT cause it's faster and easier to modulate (plus it has the low pass gate option).

I like the way Waves handled FM visualization in FlowMotion. 4-op with a lot of great options.

Thanks a lot for sharing it!
The combi sounds very nice and have a great faceplate. It is an excellent example of the power of combinator and a good reminder that we need to create more combi patches and buy less rack extensions :)

Cool synth, cool demo, cool front panel! If that’s your logo on the right side I’d suggest making it less like the instrument design and just a bit more “obvious” - especially if you do more of these (which you obviously should do IMO!). :)

Thanks for sharing with us. Nicely done!
Players are to MIDI what synthesizers are to waveforms.
