Reason 13 has arrived: Release Notes
That last thing is very interesting, could sometime test this ?
Maybe someone with both v12 and v13 should really test thisselig wrote: ↑31 Jul 2024I for one really hope it is placebo, because otherwise that means they accidentally and unknowingly changed something (or are not telling us the whole story). Either way, my vote is strongly in the placebo for the same reason it is every update: because they would be shouting this from the rooftops if they had somehow managed to pull it off!
I personally would not share such kind of updates, as they will imply Reason was not the best it could be sound-wise. But it doesn't mean that it shouldn't be the best and things should be left as they are.
It could technically be like in 3D software when you're not having full-blown renders while working on them. Maybe there was some kind of a limit on the audio bit depth when playing stuff inside DAW? And now this limit is just extended? Dunno, those are just theories and I'm definitely not a sound engineer. I've just noticed a bit of additional clarity in my old projects. But again, I'm completely fine if it's just a placebo!

Yeah there is no difference in sound quality between 12/13, or between Reason and other DAWs (at least in any appreciable way; there might be technical differences in the way they handle summing or whatever). I do find it easier or harder to get certain kinds of sounds/mixes from DAW to DAW though, mostly as a result of their built in plugins and how they invite you to (or disuade you from) doing certain things by way of their workflow. But yeah on a purely sonic level I believe they're all basically the same.
Just for clarity, summing is addition, full stop. Doing clean summing is one of the simplest things in DSP. Modeling analog summing is WAY more difficult and a big deal in DAWs like LUNA. Which is why I keep saying if they are changing anything that affects the overall audio quality, they would most certainly make as big a deal about it as the other DAWs do.chimp_spanner wrote: ↑01 Aug 2024Yeah there is no difference in sound quality between 12/13, or between Reason and other DAWs (at least in any appreciable way; there might be technical differences in the way they handle summing or whatever). FWIW, I’ve done summing comparisons between Reason and Logic and managed a perfect null. I summed 64 (!) tracks in Reason and in Logic, and got a perfect null:
Someone in the video comments actually made the claim that “it doesn’t matter how mathematically identical they are, they don’t ‘sound’ the same”. They claimed Reason sounded flat and 2D, and Logic sounded like the piano was in the room. I would totally disagree, I heard ZERO difference between the two (and in every other DAW comparison test I’ve run).
And yet the two files nulled perfectly, leaving no room for any differences between the two. Confirmation bias is a hell of a drug…
Technical note: a null test can only tell you one thing, that the files being compared are the same or different. It cannot tell you which file is different or by how much, although any non-nulling residual audio will give clues to how they are different. For example, if the files do not null, and the residual audio is just high frequencies, we only know there is a difference between the amount of high frequencies of the two files, and nothing about either particular file (we don’t know if one is brighter than the other or one is duller than the other, just that there is a difference).
Bottom line: a perfect null is the only result of a null test that gives us an absolute answer: both files ARE identical.

For people who upgraded to reason13, are you happy with your decision? Is it a big step forward for 199us? Especially if you take out the synth and a delay. So in terms of workflow and other improvements...are you happy with it?
I still don't see anything that would make me spend 199us. For VST, was happy to upgrade, for GUI scale, happy to upgrade. For a different browser and a midi tool on the left...feels like a free update. Synth and a delay are cool, but there are still some in the store I would rather buy. I don't know.

I didn't upgrade I figured for $199 all you're getting is a New Browser that's really the big upgrade. We have enough synths, delay's I already have the Selig Gain signal device and the tool window just got relocated none thing new or impressive about it. But what I am noticing is ALL the complaints and the bugs that came with the new browser which I'm sure ALOT of folks are now having buyers remorse.Mataya wrote: ↑19 Aug 2024For people who upgraded to reason13, are you happy with your decision? If you are not on R+ sub you could trial it via that for https://www.reasonstudios.com/get-reaso ... oYQAvD_BwE.

There's a trap producer named SefNitty on youtube who's been swearing by Reason for years. R13 is such a downgrade for a lot of us browser wise, that Sef went back to v12. A floating browser is an obstruction. And the removal of device favorites is just silly.Mataya wrote: ↑19 Aug 2024For people who upgraded to reason13, are you happy with your decision? I thought v12 was an embarrassment. I waited for a sale to upgrade to v12 from 11, reluctantly. But v13 is downright offensive. Ripley is the only positive here and I hope they put it on sale as a RE, which I doubt. I certainly won't be downgrading to v13 because I know any additions to this version will be minimal and unenticing. This new browser fundamentally changes and/or interrupts the workflow, even in using Reason as a plugin.
Some of the most staunch advocates for Reason have a hard time defending this one.

Not to digress. But ya know, people have been telling me ProTools "sounds better than every other DAW" for yeeeeeeears. lolselig wrote: ↑05 Aug 2024Just for clarity, summing is addition, full stop. Just curious, did your test include Harrison Mixbus? It definitely has "a sound" to my ears. Though I don't use it because it is real quirky and not easy to maneuver.

Yeah that's not good, it appears all Reason Studios seem to care about are new Reason Plus Users & Subscriptions. I wanted to love R13 but after buying R12 on the first day it came out and ALL the problems that came with it. I'm glad everyday I passed on upgrading to R13 especially after finally getting R12 working the way I like it now. I can't imagine paying $199 then downgrading that's a lot of money to just waste I surely hope R13 get's significantly better sooner then later...ColdSkoolBeatz wrote: ↑27 Aug 2024There's a trap producer named SefNitty on youtube who's been swearing by Reason for years. I might be wrong but I always got the impression there was more to come from the browser but the suits upstairs demanded they release it early.
It takes a little extra work to make it possible to detach from the window seamlessly.
Maybe they're still internally experimenting with the best User Experience but were eager to give us a sneak peek.
Remember when R+ subscribers were promised early access to features? This would have been the ideal thing to do here.

Perhaps "the suits" will wait until next year to release the rest of the browser, call it a Reason 14 "upgrade" and charge $199 for it.

Reason Studios? Who are they, again? A marketing company? They used to be called Propellerhead . And they used to develop some pretty good software back in the day.jaeproduced wrote: ↑29 Aug 2024Yeah that's not good, it appears all Reason Studios seem to care about are new Reason Plus Users & Subscriptions. I hope they'll release a new synth/FX/player before the end of October, as I have all their products
