Music making should not be taken in a hard way
Sure, we might aim high by trying to make good music, but it should be not taken in a hard way, as otherwise you'd lose all the pleasure while creating.
I'm telling about this because I had a 6 months long writers block. Gotta remember to keep this fun.
Long live the good and fun times, when everything felt enjoyable still.

I couldn't agree more!

I haven't finished a song in ages. Crank up Reason most every day. This is my teenage dream and no lousy so and so on some interweb chat board is going to change that.
P.S. I am getting better at whateverthe fuck it is I'm doing. Prolly the world's best at it, not bragging or nuthin...

Whoβs using the royal plural now baby? π§
I'm no expert but I would say that you are definitely the world's best at being you. That may not always be the case given the rapid evolution of AI - we all might end up second best to our AI counterparts, although I'd like to think that AI will never be able to match my brand of grumpy petulance, cynicism and sheer bloody-mindedness.motuscott wrote: β21 May 2024I haven't finished a song in ages. Yes I agree. It's important to keep it fun and not take music making too seriously.
Anytime I've worked on music it has never helped to think "This has to turn out great". I find whenever I make music, a part of me always try to make things sound good/interesting automatically. That's just natural. Adding mental pressure doesn't add anything imo, except maybe making me feel slightly worse or stressed.

Tell me about it. The more I think that what is my artistic identity, the more harder it gets. I need to say f*uck off to the world, making killer album and win!TritoneAddiction wrote: β21 May 2024Adding mental pressure doesn't add anything imo, except maybe making me feel slightly worse or stressed.
Most of the things that we rack our brains over are not noticed at all. Especially when it comes to fine-tuning music. The layman only sees a very rough grid anyway, and the professional strictly follows his bias.

And intuition in a big manner too maybe, as formulas don't always get nailed enough well of. That's why I stated that pre-thinking your artistic identity might kill all your joy to produce.
I don't think you can plan who you are and who you will be.

Even if you could partly, very oftenly you might end up killing all your mood, so basically you'd do better when keeping things open.
I've always struggled with finding or creating my brand.
Because I create varied forms of music... I don't make a particular style. I basically turn on my computer then think what am I in the mood for? and then I go with the flow.
There's the old "hack" to use multiple aliases for different genres. For example Kobaryo uses nine different characters for his musical endeavours and another one for his visual works. That way he can give listeners an option to filter his different styles. For overlapping productions he then uses the "main-alias feat. other-alias - Title" form.
Make Various Brands. Then the Brand-Folder with the most Content is you main Brand.
