I agree but that's exactly what will happen. One free new device in the release, then several new devices trotted out free for subscribers and $100 to perpetual licence holders. Ker-ching!
But isn't that their business model going forward? Objekt must be selling like hot cakes since it wasn't included in BF sale and apparently they're doing rather well financially, since they joined so late - I've spent most of my money allocated for BF elsewhere, because the deals were available 2-3 weeks prior.
Well Objekt was released fairly recently. They also have done sales in December after the BF sale... viewtopic.php?f=4&p=628037

My guess is that the first discount of Objekt wouldn't be as big of a discount as the other REs and could get lost in a BF sale. But maybe a December sale is possible?

I'd be happy with 20-25% off :)

They can stop at 12. The number 13 is bad luck. They will jump to the future of negative numbering for

What I think they will do
  • Minimal UI/functionality updates for sequencer.
  • A new Synth and maybe some Players.
  • Add some dumb AI shit.
What I think they should do
  • Complete UI/functionality overhaul of sequencer to be on par with competitors.
  • Address the well stated issues with existing synths and Players.
  • Focus on Quality Of Life features across whole product, Sequencer, Browser, Rack, Tools etc
Honestly I just don't see the point now to pay for an update unless that money is invested in improving the DAW. I have too many synths from Reason let alone VST to use them all and competitors appear to be adding many items into the DAW instead of selling them as additional Players for example.

While new synths can be exciting, knowing I could be more productive or have more fun with the sequencer would be a massive selling point to me. Where as only getting a new synth or any AI stuff would be a big turn off.

Bonus points
  • As much as I love the original synths, please offer an option for them to be reskinned to a modern style.
I'm really beginning to wonder whether RS should just focus on either RRP or DAW but not both. Coming back to reason after 8 years I was surprised at how little had changed. Yes I'm sure there have been improvements to the DAW over the years and I'm not familiar enough with competitors to outright say so, but it feels like the DAW has been treading water during that time.

If they stopped updating today, I would still have the greatest software for my type of music ever. Even without RE's it's so rich and fun. It's a 1to1 gear simulator...what more could you want?
Of course I wish it had some features and I don't think they could ever stop adding and me not "needing" more, but Reason feels to me like I walked into a room full of gear every time I open it. I just love it for what it is. And then RE's...a universe of possibilities.
Like I said before in my posts, I love VCV and Cardinal modular and find my self feeling really fancy when I use it...and then I always realize I0m able to do almost all of the same stuff inside Reason and come back to it feeling like at home.

VST MIDI IN/OUT for me please.

I don't know what is the next thing in Reason, but I would loooove to se "firmware updates" for devices, old and new. Something lie SonicCharge Permutate for example. You load a firmware and a device transforms into something different/updated. Imagine you load a firmware into Matrix and it becomes polyphonic or whatever. You save your firmwares and load them as you need. Backward compatibilities, also solved.

Yeah, I know there's no roadmap, they said they want to make 12 the best it can be, that 13 might not happen or at the very least that they don't think about 13 yet, but I'm certain the work is underway, so...

What you think Reason 13 will have?

Notice, I'm not asking what you'd like to see!

I'm asking what you expect RS will do?

--------------------------------

My predictions:
  • VSTs inside of Reason Rack Plugin (RRP)
  • Multitimbrality in RRP, i.e. ability to send multiple MIDI Channel data to single instance of RRP (it can already output several audio streams, I believe)
  • Ability to install & use RRP without Reason DAW
I feel like this is a realistic prediction. Reason has been adding very little features from one release to the next since R10. That list blends well with the type of “features” they’ve been releasing along those years.

Would that make me upgrade ? No.

What would? Sequencer and QOL improvements.

RS might even throw in some more knobs, buttons and eye candy for the combinator.

I'd be willing to bet real money that "VSTs inside the RRP" is not high on the list or even on the list at all for Reason 13. Always found that suggestion a bit weird tbh. If I want to use a VST instrument but with a Reason effect I have the reason effect vst. If I want to use a VST effect with an RE I can place it after my RRP instrument. I suppose its because people may want to save it as a combi and recall later...? Still seems like the edgiest of edge cases though.

I wouldn't mind being able to send multiple midi channels into the RRP though so that's a good suggestion and would be cool.

The reason why I believe VSTs inside RRP would be a possible release prediction is because Reason has been focusing on Instruments and sounds much more than the DAW itself lately. VSTs inside the RRP would possibly make sense when using them inside Combinator 2 to have more sound manipulation and blend. Also having VSTs inside the RRP would get Reason owners to use their other DAW of choice along all the possibilities the Reason Rack has to offer. This is what Reason has been focusing on lately, moving the rack in any DAW.

Yes I use the RRP in every Ableton session and have never once thought that not being able to nest a VST within another VST was a problem or preventing me getting anything done. I get that it could potentially allow you to save Combi 2 presets but in Ableton you can save it as an instrument or effect rack in your User library, don't know how other DAWs deal with this though. You can also nest your RRPs within instrument or effect racks within Ableton combining them with anything you like. I like the idea of multiple midi in and out of the RRP though, that's something I'd definitely use.

1. Never really liked the idea of developers posting a roadmap. It's often delayed promises.

2. Can't imagine there will be no Reason 13.

3. If the upgrade is lackluster they will follow the trend of other DAW developers.

There are things my first sequencer in 1986 (Total Music/MIDI Paint) could do that Reason still can’t do, from auto punch to individual track looping to event selection (“select every x of y” was super handy), to a MIDI list view, and probably more I can’t remember…

To be able to create "ghost patterns" (names?) in Cubase so that you edit the original and all its clones would reflect the changes was super cool in 1988. The original was solid, while the clones had the dotted lines in the sequencer. It was also very useful to save up memory space if I remember.

OK, no more off topic Atari stuff :D

a MIDI list view
I sometimes yearn for a MIDI event list in Studio One. Cakewalk was the last DAW to do it properly. Sortable, editable and filterable (<- made up word).
When you've recorded multiple takes of automation or CCs the event list can be the best way to see what is screwing up the sound.

Want:
- At least 1 new device included as a native device ie: not a separate paid for RE
- Further options for the hi-res update ie: options to zoom only the rack view
- Different fade types when doing a quick edge drag on audio clips

1. I never said anything about roadmap.

2. RS can. They implied as much, although I believe it was a figure of speech rather than an actual plan.

3. No idea what you mean? FL 21.2, S1 6.5 or Live 12 are all pretty substantial and add stuff people were asking for.
