John Lennon said that (while he had $10,000,000 in the bank)

The outdoor recording studio is coming together. The $400 laptop comes from Taiwan in 6 days. San Gregorio beach is calling my name. The 6 lb guitar, the 6 lb beach chair, and the 7 lb laptop with accessories are anxiously awaiting. Every November, 1000 50 foot Alaskan whales go by San Gregorio to Santa Cruz south to Mexico to have babies. I've been going there for 25 years, but never with instruments, like this year. (It's more fun to watch them return with babies around March, although the groups of Orcas that follow them are scary).

I plan to get .02" polycarbonate sheets to make sun shades. I have fifty different colored markers for designs.

I tried both reason 11 and ableton live 10 suite on a 400 dollar Lenovo. Throttling could not be disabled in the BIOS, making the whole experience awful and sluggish.
Nah, I stick to my music room with my Custom 19" housed PC with all my goodies and stuff around me.
If you only want to use a few tracks it might be OK, but complete productions?
But then again, if it makes you happy and your mileage may vary of course, why not?

I was born under a ceiling, got married under a ceiling, composed 500 songs under a ceiling*, will probably die under a ceiling... Now I'm in California, I don't need one most of the time.

That pic. I'm not sure it's wise to combine a studio with a paddling pool.jfrichards wrote: ↑22 Sep 2023I was born under a ceiling, got married under a ceiling, composed 500 songs under a ceiling*, will probably die under a ceiling... Now I'm in California, I don't need one most of the time.

I just discovered numerous wonderful places within a mile of my house.
It has caused me to accelerate my portable studio building work.

What a refreshing thread. Can't wait to see the mobile studio in action. Hopefully not in a failarmy compilation.

I see places like that and the LAST thing I think about is lugging gear there to write a song. I REALLY want to work this way, I’m jealous of others who get better work done this way. So instead, I open my french doors to the 100+ acres of woodlands and let the outdoors IN!jfrichards wrote: ↑22 Sep 2023I just discovered numerous wonderful places within a mile of my house.

Seriously, even though my personal workflow is to get my inspiration from nature and bring it back to my workspace, I “get” the desire to work this way. And the quality of the gear you can fit in a backpack is astounding!
I just can’t focus on a computer screen with all that natural beauty around me. I can barely pull myself away from my own personal forest (and all the work to be done there) to work in my own studio some days!!!
So the tech geek side of me is very interested in this thread even though it’s not something I’ve been able to do, starting with the QY70 I got many years ago, to my iPad explorations of a few years ago.
In a related note, I always try to hike with my camera gear in my pack, but often just end up grabbing a few quick pics with my phone due to the excitement of the location vs the time to setup the gear and sit in one place long enough to get a decent “photograph”. I’m too distracted and excited to see what’s around the next corner!!!
