I have always liked Polar but the colouring it has really lets it down for me.

Is this inherent in devices with delay buffers, or are there VSTs out there with clean delay buffers anyone knows about? Just the thought of it has me salivating

Thanks I have Buffre and it's excellent but I don't think it has a delay buffer like Polar.

Thanks but I'm not seeing the specific delay buffer like Polar has that I'm looking for. I think the word buffer is used for stutter effects to describe the temporary storage of sounds that are manipulated, could be wrong. Polar's delay buffer is amazing and powerful, just that specifically is what I am looking for. Thanks :)

Ah right, I read the first reply and started thinking of alternatives for Buffre--completely forgetting the thread was actually about Polar.

I think this might be the type of thing you're looking for?

Haven't used it personally, so I'm not sure about the coloring aspect.

Not the same, but check out Echobode, it's brilliant.

It looks like it, looks like the 'sleep buffer' that allows you to modulate the start and end points might be similar. Also has patch cables on the front, does look pretty cool and like it should do the job, cheers!

Yes I have Echobode, it doesn't have this feature AFAIK but I would would recommend it to anyone, great device, cheers :)

I've never seen that gear before. Looks amazing. I think a clean delay buffer could be small potatoes for these guys hopefully. I will look in to these products for sure. I haven't done stutter stuff for ages but I will get back to it, and this stuff looks super inspiring and fun, thanks for the link!!

A delay buffer is pretty special, just like Polar you capture some sound which you can now scrub through.

One way to try and explain it is to say that if you had that buffer of Sound captured and used the Scrub wheel to slow it down and make it stop, well it would stop in a sense but the sound would still be sustaining. It blows my mind how it does this and it's not easy to explain. I don't think it's like a basic looper.

Oh okay like you can freeze the sample in real-time?

It's been a while since I tested it but I think this RE can do this.
https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/rack ... n/neutron/

Manual is here and it says it has a 8 second buffer.
http://soundlove.se/resources/Neutron.pdf

There is also Beatchop:
https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/rack ... me-slicer/

The manual says that 4 seconds is the maximum before it starts downsampling. The options for playback are more advanced than Neutron but it doesn't do Freeze / Granular stuff to my knowledge.

Yes as far as I know this is a delay buffer effect.

Yeah Beatchop is great but they way it triggers is not similar to Polar's delay buffer effect, I think the same with Buffre. The really cool thing about Polar is how you can scrub through that buffer. Just tried it out and Neutron does do this. It does not have the ease of control Polar does, and it also colours the sound quite a lot, you can hear a lot of the grains. It turns out while Polar does colour the sound, it's probably a pretty reasonable amount considering the complicated effect process taking place. Pulling these out made me miss stuttering effects, hope to get back to that soon. Cheers for the reply! :puf_bigsmile:

https://isotonikstudios.com/product/ded ... tiq-audio/ maybe investigate this too. I have it (and Sandman Pro!) but haven't really got deep with either one yet - both are very powerful and all of Unfiltered Audio's stuff is solid.

Looks quite cool and sure does has a delay buffer that can be scrubbed through, seems pretty clean at first look too, might be what I need thanks for sharing

Not VST, but as already write in Polar topic, our Coriolis Force RE already have "Hold" (freeze) real-time buffer, with dual pitch+filter. This is more about dual pitch-shifter with filtering flexibility options vs delay in Polar.
But also have some delay solutions, like Freq modes (lower freq modes create short delay).

Enso by audio damage is cool. Doesn’t scrub but you can do cool things like offset the rec and playback tape heads, reverse delay stuff, playback speed etc
