I like the SP1200 emulation in Maschine and also SP950 by waveTracing, but this sure looks interesting:

If you've bought an Inphonik product in Rack Extension from the Reason Shop, we're happy to send you a free license of the same product in VST/AU/AAX. Please get in touch with us and attach a screenshot of your proof of purchase at support@inphonik.com. Sadly, we can't do the other way around anymore. Reason users, please buy the RE first!

Just a heads up that the RE version is imminent and a song competition as well :)
On the Inphonik site I don't see demo versions of the plugins, but Reason users should be able to demo the :re: for 30 days, right?

Very excited to see this RE hit the shop!
Players are to MIDI what synthesizers are to waveforms.

I see the RE has onboard sample recording. The VST version doesn't appear to have that.

From the manual:
The Rack Extension version is almost the same as the VST/AU/AAX version,
except that the load/save functions for samples and presets are relying to Reason’s
integrated functions. Also, Reason’s internal sample editor replaces the RX1200’s.

I bought the RE version, then sent an email requesting the VST version. They replied with a download/license key in less than five minutes (at 9pm their local time!). I don't think you can beat their customer service! Make sure you buy the RE version first, though. They are unable to crossgrade from VST to RE anymore, but can crossgrade from RE to VST.

Are these exception cases or can anyone who bought the RE just crossgrade to the VST version? Though I generally prefer to use REs over VSTs, it can't hurt to have both.

Nope, their policy is if you own the RE of any of their software, they will give you a license for the VST version as well if you send them a message. You just need to provide proof that you own the RE via screenshot or receipt.

Same here, I prefer REs, but it's nice to have the VST option as well.

I bought the bundle and emailed them. Within a few hours I received licenses for both products in the bundle. Went very smooth and as promised.
