I did, it's not that impressive.

All DAW makers should be concerned… this is the trend for “DAWless”:
I mean I guess the searches should go down since they dropped the Propellerhead name 4 years ago.
The name change from Propellerhead to Reason Studios was 2019.
I think it's fairly well understood that PH lost a lot of users in the years before Record, even though they had the best head start any music company could wish for in the early 2000s. That stubborness that stopped them adding audio input, audio tracks, MIDI out and plugin support and keep trying to focus on the Rack as a collection of instruments cost them dearly.
The question now is how can they turn that around? I think they've made some good decisions in the last few years. Although I don't use it RRP is a much better solution than Rewire was in my opinion. It's still focused on Reason as a collection of instruments and I think it makes it much easier for people to access them. Without wanting to turn this into a feature suggestion thread I think they should probably add an option to host single REs in RRP without having to buy a copy of Reason. The current mess with Apple M1 and VSTs being killed off should be a good opportunity to remind people of the benefits of Rack Extensions. I see a lot of people realising that the VSTs they have won't work forever and thinking the only solution is hardware, which should be a good opportunity to talk about the RE format. Except if a RE costs €99 you then need to factor in the cost of a Reason licence on top of that.

They had, to me, the perfect ecosystem, but encouraged people to leave and invest elsewhere. Very strange. Now RRP was a great move I will eventually use one day. Forced to.

Do you know what I reckon would be a more interesting graph, if it were actually possible: excitement for releases from Props/Reason Studios over time? I used to be genuinely hyped to find out what the latest release would bring, and this has waned massively for me, same with the release of new rack extensions. It might be that I simply now have so much of what I need to make music, everything new is a diminishing return, or the result of a move to incremental releases, but there's also a sense of failure to deliver on prior years more inspirational work. I've not given up, and I long for something new that blows me away the same way I have been in the past. I'm not sure a rack extension is going to do that, and with no plans for Reason 13 right now, where are things going?
We did. Point is, it’s not really saying much. Check the other graphs in this thread. Keywords are very specific when it comes to searches. Literally one word difference can change the results.
I don't understand what the point is. The name changed 4 years ago. They changed the name in part because it's not the easiest to search. As they explained, many people weren't familiar with the brand name of Propellerhead. Many people if searching, would just search for "Reason", and of course showing results for that is going to be skewed. And those who do know would search for content on YouTube or go directly to the website.
Did you see my graph about interest in "music software"? It looks pretty similar to your graph.
Oh, so that's why the search rate was so high in the beginning. Because people weren't familiar with it. Yeah I get it now.

Lol I don't know. I don't pretend to make any sense of the trending search results. I posted some examples. How can "music software" be down? It could be because people know where to go... They have bookmarks for websites... They go directly to Sweetwater or wherever to look at prices, read features, and then buy their software... I don't know the last time I searched for Reason content on the web. I go directly to the Reason shop, I go directly to their YouTube channel, I come here... It could be my fault for not doing more Google searches for Reason over the years lol
I will say that being a user since Reason 1, it feels like more people are aware of Reason and using Reason than ever before. So whatever that is worth in this analysis...
I agree with this 100%.dioxide wrote: ↑04 Apr 2023I think it's fairly well understood that PH lost a lot of users in the years before Record, even though they had the best head start any music company could wish for in the early 2000s. Their stubbornness has led to a lot of straight losses of easy wins.
But it's easy to say this in retrospect.

Yea, but that is proportional to the amount of interest it had before, which was probably very small... so the huge ramp in the interest is probably correct, but the correlation to the number of people making those search and how that interest compares to interest in other products in terms of the gross number of searches being performed is probably not going to be what you are insinuating it is.
Also, with prices going up for hardware, and computer prices and power levels going up at the same (or a decreasing) price point, I think a lot of those search will ultimately lead to a dead end as people many won't see a point in investing that much $ in hardware - particularly in the market segments where most of the growth is happening. This is especially true when you factor in the increasing quality of emulation and modeling in a plug-in market that seems like it's in a race to the bottom; with the lowest average prices we've ever seen due to borderline-perpetual sales/promotional prices.
Reason graphs are going to be tainted by the fact that it has a really awful product name for tracking trends and most people are probably not searching for "Propellerhead Reason" at this point. That makes that search term bad for graphing product interest, but it's hard to really use anything else that will properly drill down to the product itself, unless you start using Boolean Expressions
Product Names like "Cubase" and "Bitwig" are likely to give more reliable trend graphs because you can be sure that every search that is being counted is relevant to those specific products. People generally don't use those terms unless referring to those products... "Reason," on the other hand.
