With that amount of compression, there will certainly be a difference - although difficult to judge as its not level matched.

I would lean more towards the idea that the so called "punch" only comes from the increase in level. Moreover, I think the over compression actually takes away the punchiness of the original drums. It sounds a bit floppy afterwards
