There's a simple decision tree for this.

Do you need another hobby? If so, build your own PC.

In the UK at least it's far too easy to get a small company to use a trade discount to get a better deal than the stuff you can buy retail. Usually they'll build it for less than the money you save by shopping with them.
I've built a PC myself in the past, I had this one built for me and it was back in the shop with a bent pin within a week...but if it was me who'd bent that pin I'd be pissed at myself. I'm totally happy with my rig and it's been rock solid for almost 5 years now. The way the prices went up after 2016 I think I could probably sell it for what I paid for it.
I would strongly advise against buying a pre-built pc, there's usually a compromise built in somewhere.
@pushedbutton on twitter, add me, send me a message, but don't try to sell me stuff cos I'm skint.
Using Reason since version 3 and still never finished a song.

Building your own PC is always a good idea. She was very happy and loved the experience.

That's what I found a couple of years ago when I wanted to get a new PC. When I looked at the cost of the parts, I found a company who could build the PC spec I wanted and it worked out that I would pay £20 more for it - my time is worth more than that, so it was a no brainer to get them to build it.

I built 2 last saturday for the 2 sons of the guy who does my taxes and insurance. One is 12 and the other is 14. It was a complete blast, he ordered all the parts and I went over there to build it and install it. The boys were there every step of the way, never having seen a PC being built, and I was constantly telling them what I was doing and what was this part and what was that part. It was GREAT. Now they both have bad ass Ryzen PC's with a nice GTX1660 and 32GB RAM.

So I built these 2 PC's (see previous post). The guy was a bit confused why he couldn't get a 32GB computer in the same price range which I was giving him. The prebuilt were a lot more expensive. Yeah duh, because the prebuilt ones do not ship 32GB of RAM with a Ryzen 5 3600. They automatically go for bigger CPU's (which are not needed at all in this case). That's the power of building your own, you get to streamline it exactly how you want it.

I've built gaming systems from scratch but now that the chips have become so powerful my plan is to buy a silent ARM system such as an M1 Macbook Air and never look back. A completely silent system that does everything I need is the new base level even if sacrificing a little power for the silence.

All the new Macs based on M1 (Apple Silicon) run silent much of the time.

The new MacBook Air doesn't even have a fan (which I find hilarious given its name). So it runs silent all the time.

And when the fans on the other two models do run they're quiet. I can't even remember hearing fan noise from my M1 mini.

However, if you want to indulge an urge to assemble a computer yourself, a Mac is not the way to go.

Also, there's no M1-native build of Reason available yet. I just run the Intel build in emulation, and I still don't hear the fan.

i managed to convince a frend to get me a new computer very good of them to but what arrived though it works well definatly doesnt work to the specs i asked for witch bassically ment a ssd for the operating system ,i pressumed all was well and accepted it, then while mucking about i found the operating system was on drive c .witch is an terrabyt old style hard drive. /Okay i though theyve made a mistake so after several tries to get the ssd drive to work and failing i rang dell lenova on the last days of the warranty after a lot of talking dell told me its an experimental prototype modal and it sells with the ssd turned of by the manufacturer this is about after a month of trying to fix it and a nervous breakdown mild sort,i asked them what the problem is and they said as its only 128 gigs big the windows operating system and the updates and back up would not fit on the drive, great i said with days to go before the warranty runs out i really didnt want to upset my frends by sending it back as its a gift exzpensive 200 pound gift 2 with is about a years savings in my book i then checked other various prototype bits like 3d cameras that dont work it has a touchscreen that works ,then came windows 11 and guess what its got the bad chips that dont do windows eleven or even worse motherboard, So i said as i wont be getting any windows updates for windows 10 i might as well put the operating system on it as ive got enough cash to ring them again as for sum reason only they can turn it on .! remember.still ive had it a good few years and its served my 2ndry brain well if a bit tempermental,it allso due to local rules self destruct if i use more than half the space on the drive and did amazingly when i delated 300 gigs in 1 fell swoop cos the little birdie said now or never,! regret my cutting edge precision brain coming from the wrong date and the inability to compete compare with the top rigs the attitude needed is completely different still it luvs reason and sound so im good to go though i definatly use variuus driver updater task killers and of course defragulaters these as theres so many processes that need tending are impossible to do manually, and the general clean and tweak to keep it going well past the limiters 2.5 gigs to 3.6 gigs cpu so i wish you all luck from my new prototype world including tweak windows 10 allso has with star back up for when the wifi to internet goes dial in porn i star on chaterbate and just about everything works live
