This is mental.
Wow, powerful and familiar - the artists journey…
Giving me young “Tommy Shelby” vibes (Peaky Blinders main character)!

flatmate: Phoebe Bridgers!
me: Gillian Welch!
I put Patty Griffin in that same arena, but I’m biased having worked on a few projects with Patty over the years.

Sigh.

This is Bic Runga, a nz singer who was very big here in the mid 90s. She's regarded now as being pretty mor and safe but her first record (which she also produced) is terrific.

(I've met her a couple of times and not only is she extraordinarily good looking, she's also a genuinely really nice person and very smart).

hello,

this dynamic duo just won't quit

here is an early concert 2008

all of their songs are superduper
@ 13 minutes she states, 'people love chicks with a banjo'
and then proceeds to shred the banjo

i also got some 'bic runga' songs coming down

thank you,

j

a later live cover in a cafe
the comments are wonderful to read while listening to the song

Happy you're enjoying this stuff!

Here's the song my flatmate played me that kicked it off.

Its not really my taste tbh but that said its pretty impressive and the genuine camaderie between them is really cool.

Here's something a bit darker

Been blasting the Boredoms while working on the deck today. I miss those guys. You could power an entire city for a year on the insane amount of energy they put out

And further into the twisted krautrock realm, this incredible Faust/Nurse With Wound collaboration from 2007 which nobody ever seems to have heard of but it's 100% balls-out solid genius

Yeah the old one was broken and the moaning noise I was making whilst washing dishes by hand was not pleasant to listen to.
