I never buy anything from Arturia EVER! Back in the day, I was on the beta-team for their first Moog Modular emulation plugin. After doing a lot of intensive testing and submitting bug-reports and suggestions (that they asked for), we the beta-testers got the option to... buy it full price like everyone else

The bad taste that was left, never gone away. So, I steer clear from anything Arturia.

I recently picked up V9 in the winter sale and I’m delighted. They all sound brilliant.
Seriously thinking about picking up Pigments 4. Sounds amazing. Might pick this up too.

Yeah this was an exclusive thing only for owners of the minifreak hardware. As an lender of the microfreak I’m pretty happy to be able to get this, though I do wonder if the charm is in using the hardware itself. We’ll see. The bundle with V Collection is tempting.

A lot of 1:1 VST/Hardware synths are coming out lately (see also Korg's modwave/wavestate/opsix).

There's a real appeal to having 1:1 control of the VST with no setup required. MiniFreak at least supports this (not sure if the Korg ones do).
Do any of them work properly in Reason out of the box (when using the hardware to control the VST)?
Or does Reason's reliance on Remote preclude that?

Sorry to hear about that - I’ve never beta tested for them so I don’t know how that works with them or what promises may or may not have been made/broken. But I have software and hardware from them and the one time they messed up with hardware (manufacturing error), then sent me the replacement part immediately without question.

So all I can speak to is customer service, and the one time I needed it they came through in a stellar way!

Arturia won me over with their ongoing (free) development of Pigments and MicroFreak.

I bought the 'Freak at firmware 1.x. It's now at 4.x and they have added all manner of extra functionality, new oscillators and new play modes not to mention the total surprise of a vocoder mode where they revealed that the headphone socket can also function as a microphone input. Now that the MiniFreak is here I imagine MicroFreak updates will slow or stop, although I hope that they continue with their occasional free preset packs. There are no guarantees but I expect the MiniFreak will see some excellent firmware updates over the next couple of years.

I've only had dealings with their customer service once with a quite technical query and they handled that very well and very promptly (and they didn't patronise me, which earns them extra points) .

I have had to use remote to map all V8 / V9 synths... although mapping was not required in Ableton Live ( they just worked). I prefer reason as my daw of choice as I am more accustomed to using it over Live, but it appears like I will have to delve into Live 10 suite more, and learn it far better than I do now Also, the patch up and down buttons on my controllers did not work in reason, with no way to map them at all. I remember my extra pad buttons not working as they should as well. My wish is someday reason will just work with my multiple controllers, with these plugins, without the hassle of setting up with remote, and assigning knobs. The Pigments update and love they showed on that plugin, was impressive. (IMO) Arturia have continued to update select plugins, in the V9 Synths, and V9 Effects collections multiple times in the last months. My two support experiences were nothing but excellent/quite quick > and they actually seemed to care about their users. Issues were resolved extremely quick, in a professional non-condescending manner .
I wish more companies did support in this way. ( not mentioning any names here LOL )

I can understand your choice considering this experience. Yet, it seems either it was an exception either they learned.

Generally it seems the very good companies in this field try very hard to have some give away and free stuffs.
If you take the current 2 main synths and arguably the most advanced, phase plant and pigments, both kilohearts and arturia are having great freebies and give away. I was having khs little effects inserts everywhere in my compositions before buying snapheap and phase plant. For Arturia, the MS20 filter give away makes a lot of sense, it is a great sounding filter that has a warm gritty sound that was before considered a weakness of pigments. Now, they have added it for free in pigments, they also give it for non users as a way to drive them to their products, it is quite smart.... I think (I am no specialist ).

I saw that Arturia was having a sale on the MiniFreak V ... it says $99 USD but when I added it to the cart, it showed $49 USD and that's what I paid... hopefully others will get the same pricing... here's the link.

I'm quite invested in Arturia what with having one of their keyboards, V collection 9 and the FX.

But Ive found it easy to pass on this, the Augmented Pianos and that automated distortion thing even at the discounted prices (the two new distortions based on real hardware units that came out before that are fantastic though, don't sleep on them). Partly because I have more than enough for my hobbyist needs and getting nicely on top of my GAS, but also because all 3 are a bit underwhelming IMO

Bit off topic, but TBH as much as the Reason shop could do with some new blood and a revamp, I'm finding I have more interest in REs at the moment and waiting on sales. Where Reason is more of a niche DAW than others it makes the REs feel even more so, particularly if they are Reason exclusive and not copies of VSTs. There are some great developers in this community. Cant wait to use the RRP outside of Rosetta mode in Ableton !! (sorry this is even more off topic!).

Of the arturia hp demo sounds nothing what knocks me down of my stool, even if only costs 6,90€
Hardware of 600bugs with a 1,5 inch display and a "superb" building quality, and toylike keys extremly "nice" for live usage......
I really like Arturias Spark2 with SparkLe, but they never updated it´s missed midi out function...as well Augment Strings is a pretty nice sounding gift.
If i don´t have so much other synth, i would buy their -V9-collection, but for Minifreak what´s the big thing with this synth, i only find reviews where this instrument gets hypped, maybe something I have to try in a musicshop next time, but i think their a little bit late with this all in one rave sound generator.
