Turns out, I'm having a ton of fun with FM sounds in Grain. Is there a free (i'm poor) refill with factory DX7 sounds?

I have Dexed with the factory sounds. That's a ton of work to sample all those.

If there is no refill, I may end up doing it anyway. :|

Get the big DX7 pack, get Dexed, play your sounds, load into Grain.

This is the big collection from Koshdukai:

Lot of other sites are currently off or suspicious. There was also a cleaned pack, with only 60k files, but it seems to be off.

Chipping in on DX7 patches..

Is a DX7 to Algoritm patch tool something you'd all enjoy having?

I hope you are aware that DX7 (or PX-7) and Algoritm are entirely different animals.

Just add a low pass after [weirdness], or switch the algo, some fx etc, and you're good to go

Is it normal, for some of the patches to be blank?

Sure, the dx7 has samples in the mix, but FM wise Algoritm should be able to output similar sounds right?

Don't forget, A.I. has zero taste in anything in art. Blank patches you know are wrong is proof only you can
Maybe the coders decided it was not worth changing the codes, that people would simply skip them? Just guessing. Also double check if those are not cases of extremely slow attack settings, maybe you could hear something after more than one minutes, or hours? A.I. doesn't give a f

 For sure, I'm digging through some old refills and finding some FM gems.

Looks like, I'll be building a library for dropping into Grain.

No idea what you mean by that, but a DX7 (or emulation thereof) does absolutely nothing with samples.

Nope, not even close. There are some DX7 sounds that you can get close to with Algoritm, but the more detailed DX7 sounds won't work. Algoritm is an FM-based synth, but it is definitely no DX7 emulation. It lacks a lot of stuff that makes a DX7 sounds like it does. On the other hand, does Algoritm have things that are not in a DX7 and can therefore do sounds that are impossible with a DX7. The fact that Algoritm and DX7 both use FM as their base synthesis method is the only thing they have in common.

There are several other FM synthesizers in the Reason shop, and none of them is in any way compatible with any other one. That's why I almost have them all, and still want to get the ones I don't have yet (which is mainly Blamsoft's Zero).

Oh fuck, did I have a different synth in mind. Woops
