I'm trying to recreate this very Abba-ish sounding piano sound that's used throughout Ghost's song "Spillways". It has quite a distinctive character, but for all my tweaking I can't figure out what exactly makes it so. I have access to Radical Piano and the original Reason Pianos (plus stock instruments, of course).

Can anyone offer some guidance? Many thanks!

I think it is a DX7 like piano.
Meaning FM synthesis.
I don't think you can get that easily by a sample based piano.
Do you happen to have algorithm?
If not maybe starting from a piano preset in Europa?
Bitwig and RRP fanboy...

I *do* have Algoritm (and PX7). I didn’t even think of using FM. I was diverted by a report that the actual Abba piano had been used and that colored my thinking.

Thank you for the idea!

I have no useful information to offer.

But thank you for linking that video. That guy is a relentlessly efficient machine and I am here for it.

I am struck by the juxtaposition of the music, which is just a step or two away from modern country, with the lyrics and video, which are anything but modern country.

I used to worry the culture warriors of the American south would dispatch assassins for him, and that was years before he came for their music.

Thank you! I'm traveling at the moment, but will give this a go once back at the keyboard. Thank you for your efforts! :-)

Try adjusting the character to be more 'agitated'. That's the sound I'm hearing.
Thanks - I did try that, and the result seemed to be more “annoying” than “agitated”! ;-)

@Marc64 - thanks again for your patch; turned out to be exactly what we needed.

Thank you, all!

Please forgive the resurrection of an old thread. I thought some folks might get a kick out of my son's cover of Spillways. Marc64's piano patch did just the trick and can be heard prominently. Thanks again.
