I should have come out last Autumn but it ain't nowhere to be seen... anyone has some guesses as to when or if it will see the light of day??
It sounds almost like a Moog DFAM, but at half the price....
It also sounds like the Volca Kick, for me the best Volca ever made.

Meanwhile they find themselves asking customers to stop bugging them about release dates... They should just stop announcing things so early lol.

It's understandable for a company who has few products and wants people to know they are still alive, to announce something so far in advance. But with their product lines, at this point it's hard to keep track of what is yet to be released, what is available today, and what is discontinued or just waiting for chips in order to produce it again.

I feel like many of their products lose steam after the hype wears off over time in which they aren't yet released and it probably cannibalizes their sales. Some of their products, if they were to announce the same day stock is available like other manufacturers do, I might have some Behringer synths because of impulse buys. But the time between announcement and availability allows me to realize, I don't need this or that...or I simply forgot about it entirely lol.

Yeah, I'm also not sure why they announce stuff so early but you are correct that it is a shameless copy of tribute to the DFAM.
It will arrive when it arrives. Their Modded Out bass line has only just hit the shelves and that was announce about a million years ago. :D

Well, with some worldwide shortage on component, that's not abnormal to have protoype / ready product shown and advertised, but production not started yet.

At least it gives the opportunity to get feedback from future buyers and do some fine-tuning.

I know it's frustrating to wait, i'm in that train also, but i'm not aware of other brand asking feedback for hardware synths, so I think that as an opportunity

The global chip shortage (esp. with STM32 micro-controllers) leading to delays would have been my guess as well. If you cannot get the chips that you used in your design a re-design is often not a good option of the product is close to being finished and paying the huge up-sell cost of the chip mafia *ehem* brokers is also not an option if you're trying to build a very affordable synth (like behringer does).

But still, they don't need to announce so early.

Another thought—maybe if they didn't try to launch so many products, they wouldn't need as many chips 🤔

I'm not sure your "make less stuff" business plan is going to attract many investors :D

I suppose they announced it as soon as they had a working pre-series model to show. That's rather late in the hardware design cylce, but then the chip shortage hit as they tried to ramp up production.

And even if just a single important chip of your design is missing there's quite often the situation where there is no good alternative on the market at all. In an ideal world one could find a drop-in replacement, but in patent ridden reality you're lucky to even find a compatible IC with roughly the same specs from another vendor.
The only other option is basically to go back to the drawing board and restart the design process with other available components, which also takes about a year until you're back to the working pre-series model when some major parts (like the MCU) have to be replaced.

This has been going on for the past couple years. The chip shortage is not new. So it's not something that keeps catching them by surprise.

I just wanted to add. that I broke down and got the DFAM. I do not regret it at all and will likely get the edge too. IT is such a fun synth the mess with.

I'm happy to buy these cheap Behringer synths but I don't know why Moog doesn't sue their a$$! I have the Crave and you can use the Moog Mother 32 manual with it.

Anyway, Spice looks interesting but I'm disappointed in the muted colour compared to the other two. I wonder how many years it will take to reach the stores.
