Win 11 to Go. Nightmare.

Want to talk about music hardware or software that doesn't include Reason?

I've been running Win 11 for all winter, on a Nvme drive, installed as Win 11 2 Go, skipping TPC requirements the install went fine.
Soon problems arised.
AMD drivers were constantly and repeatedly overwritten by win updates, each time breaking the Graphical drivers and requiring a roll back of some sort, if not
a complete uninstall-reinstall of the AMD Adrenaline drivers.

As time went by things got worse. At one point a disk misbehaved. Win 11 crashed with a Blue screen, and the disk remained in Sleep mode.
I could not recover the disk with any OS, as it was locked in Hybernation, untill finally reinstalling Win11 2 go I was able to access it again and perform a formatting.

Win 11 2 go does not allows you to reset your PC.
I contacted MS and they said Win 11 2 go was not supported.
At one point CMD went broke, I could not launch it in Admin mode. No way to recover it, or launch sfc/ scannow.

Things run on the verge of collapsing for some time untill this week a forced update killed what was left functioning.
I was not able to uninstall AMD driver anymore, nor fix it, nor launch a troubleshooter, or uninstall any update.

The time for Win 11 2 Go is over.
It was a nice experiment, but I'm back to Win 10 for good.

I will try another fresh install of Win 11 2 Go some other time in the future, to see
if MS fixed all this mess... stay aware

This is what I do: Install Windows 10 (it's a while ago), install everything I need on top of that, so I have a stable machine running. Now comes the critical part: install software that blocks all Windows update trash to make sure MS can no longer touch your system.

I've been bitten once by MS where their update completely wrecked my installation and I needed to install everything from scratch. Took me about a week to get everything up and running again. Won't happen to me again.

You forgot the next step: Unplug it from the internet.

Not needed (my system is always connected), just stay away from Edge browser and install a good firewall OUTSIDE your Windows machine. I don't even run any antivirus software (for performance reasons). Being conscious about these things, works much better. I admit though that my music computer is the only Windows machine I run, and it's deeply embedded in a secured Linux-based network. I guess not everyone has that stuff available :puf_wink:

Windows 11. Already cost us hours and hours of non-declarable hours because it fucking breaks everything.

"Some people also flagged issues with ShareX, KeePass, Microsoft Teams and other apps like Visual Studio installer."

Issues with Keepass? An open source source project? Those Win 11 'bugs'. It seems they're on a mission :puf_wink:
