Hello guys & girls,

anyone nows a Refill Collection who is comparable of the omnisphere synth rompler?

I bother with buying omnisphere but in Reason we have so much instruments so is it really necessary?

I am searching instruments for inspiration.

Cheers

Bitley's WBF is a huge and great collection of top sounds. If you have not yet gotten to acquire it, it would be my recommendation. It also goes on sale regularly.

The Pink Noise ReFills are really good, https://reasonbanks.com/e-shop.html - you could get the discounted big bundle collection. Especially strong are Orange, Analog Monsters and Revolver.

It depends entirely on what exactly you need from Omnisphere.

You've got WBF, stuff from DNA labs and Sonic Reality.

Reason as a whole is comparable to Ominisphere. It’s just about what you’re looking for.

Such a thing does not exist imo. If you want something that sounds like Omnisphere, you should probably pick up Omnisphere.

That's either wildly over rating Reason content or under rating Omnisphere

Um, no. Describing Omnisphere as a rompler is like describing a car as something that stores wheels.
Maybe be more specific about the sounds you are looking for.

90% of this list is possible with Reason. They’re functionally equivalent. I’ve played around with Omnisphere, and don’t get me wrong, it’s a fantastic product and Eric Persing is a legend, but it’s not out of the scope of quality of patches you can get with Reason. Just about what you’re specifically looking for.

Yes though, if you specifically want Omnisphere patches you should buy it. But quality of product…about the same.

Possible but not actually available - and you're ignoring the years of learning before being able to create the content.

Simple fact is if you're looking at Omnisphere because the content/sounds are something that you want then Omnisphere is worth buying anything else isn't going to cut it.....

But I’m actually talking about refill or sound pack content. Years of experience already put in. Perhaps I wasn’t clear there. I wasn’t implying one do their own sound design. Omnisphere has a vast library of patches, some people only care about pads or certain genre fitting patches. So what one is looking for would determine suggestions. As an example, I’d say DNA labs makes some comparable quality patches in this regard. Others have named Bitley’s WBF.

I've worked with Omnisphere before. It's got a *lot* of sample content, some more towards the esoteric side but it's mostly just high quality sampled synths and organic sounds recorded with clever sound design. The Pink Noise stuff I shared is of a high quality to replicate the former and for the latter, similar results can be achieved using Reason as a modular playground, layering sounds and using lots of effects.

Omnisphere does also have a synth engine, arpeggiator and other cool stuff but you've got some decent synths in Reason factory (Europa, Grain), Player REs like Dual Arpeggio, the Robotic Bean and Lectric Panda stuff and there's also great synths like the Synapse REs you can get to augment the factory Reason synths too.

Omnisphere is a beast but if you want to stay inside native Reason-land completely and thus don't fancy running Omni as a VST in Reason, then you do still have plenty of options to make similar sounds using just ReFills, Rack Extensions and your creativity!

Good luck!

I listened to the whole first video. I heard nothing that I can't do with Reason, with the available instruments and REs. Besides that, numerous presets are sounding very close to each other. There are obviously several presets that are basically the same sound with slightly different filter settings (the preset names do reflect this), so I'll take their 12000 preset claim with a grain of salt. Most presets do sound beautiful though, but so does many other instruments, including what's available in the Reason ecosystem.

I own both Omnisphere 2 & Bitley's WBF2.

Omnisphere 2 sounds more hi-fi, defined and it has a certain refinement to everything on it (one of the reason's would be the 60gb sound sources). Plus it's got way more diverse content.

Bitley's Refill is just a treasure trove of super-useful sounds. You might end up using it more than other products, because of the sheer number of usable and relatable sounds. BUT... it sounds very synthy though (so you'll not find much acoustic stuff like in Omnisphere) AND it tends to sound more lo-fi and the lack of samples per key (in NN-XT) and good quality effects can be heard.

Omnisphere is expensive and I haven't been using it (since 2014) as much as I paid for it...

I'd recommend PluginGuru's Unify if you're looking for a cheaper replacement Omnisphere ;-)
Get yourself a couple of expansion libraries for it and you're ready to go. I currently own Unify + 2 libraries. Spent about $100 for everything
(bought on Sale) and it gets used in almost every project.

What do you mean with exoteric? Maybe this is what I mean with Omnisphere. I am looking for inspiration when the mood is bad or the ideas are lacking. I love to craft sounds in Reason but sometimes it is very hard for me to find the right sound... in some songs I miss a very unique instrument that sounds great and fills up the track with live.

Esoteric: intended for or likely to be understood by only a small number of people with a specialised knowledge or interest. A lot of the Omnisphere sounds are like that, very arty and not necessarily immediately obvious what they are - but they always sound very inspirational and professional out of the box. Great for soundtrack work where such sounds are often deliberately to get that striking/exciting/mystery mood.

Maybe it is that you need Omnisphere, it's certainly one of the best heavyweight VSTs on the market. Watch some videos of people playing it on YouTube and see if it looks like something your music creation process is missing.

Good luck!

Bitley and Pink Noise are great mentions. Although different beasts, but yet great refills. Omnisphere is a powerful machine -- but of course one can create similar sounds with stock devices and ReFills. Just takes more time. Omnisphere is there ready to go.

And on that quote:

"..Eric Persing is a legend.."

I agree. He produced an album for my father-in-law in the late 80's and he once told me a great story from the sessions. When he was picking Eric up from the hotel he came to the car and told my father-in-law: "Eythor, I just had this vidid dream with this wonderful sound. I could see it. I could sculpture it in my dream. I have to go to the studio and get it alive." And he made these sounds while telling him from the dream. They later drove to the studio and Eric came up with the sound from his dream on the D-50.

Reason 12, Ableton Live 10 Suite, Roland Cloud, Arturia V9, Korg Legacy 3, Soundtoys 5, Waves Mercury, Sonic Charge Bundle, N.I.: Massive, Reaktor 6, FM8. + a lot of Hardware. Windows 7/10.

Thanks for sharing this little story :) it is inspiring to read such a thing. I personaly believe and know that sounds and frequencies are more than our "modern" society is thinking to know about these things. But this would be worth another thread - are there some philosophical threads about creating music and using certain frequencies in modern music producing to push peoples motivations or mood?

What you are describing is exactly what I mean, are there similiar refills, patches or other things like the Omnisphere :) ? but I think I will only find out if I buy omnisphere - I struggle with that, hoping that this one will not end like so many other racks or vsts who are in a deep hole of never using it :D like serum... I know, maybe I should use this great synth more often.

The ReFills I can think of which would achieve results closest to Omnisphere (but would not automatically replace it as would require the effort of layering and mixing to get there) are the Pink Noise ReFills I already mentioned https://reasonbanks.com/e-shop.html along with the organic sounds featured in the Impact Soundworks ReFills https://nucleus-soundlab.com/shop/isworks/

It's up to you if you want to try and get soundtrack style quality using only ReFills like those mentioned above (which is definitely possible with effort and skill) or if you simply want to take the shortcut and just buy and use Omnisphere VST out of the box :)

Good luck!
