Does iZotope's Trash 2 require installing iLok?

No, but it needs the iZotope installer and authorizer which you can download from their website.

Worth mentioning that, like Iris 2, Trash 2 is no longer actively developed (there are no plans to build a native Apple Silicon version: https://support.izotope.com/hc/en-us/ar ... le-silicon).
Obviously in the short term this has no impact, as it works fine on current computers and operating systems, but I'd be hesitant to use it in anything I want to be able to return to a few years from now.

That's a bummer about Trash 2 & Iris 2 not being upgraded for M1, I'm about to get a new MacBook and use those plugins all the time
Question: how does Rosetta work with plugins? Like, if I want to use Trash2 on the new M1 laptop, do I have to run my entire Reason session thru Rosetta? Or can it be plugin-specific, like I'm running the Reason session natively but just launching certain plugins in Rosetta?

Also, can I just say, fuck technology
I don't fully understand the relationship between iZotope and NI, but Iris 2 and Trash 2 are better than many NI plugins...
Iris 2 was co-developed with GForce, so maybe they can just hand it over to them to continue developing it?
That said, I would think lack of M1 support wouldn't be a big deal. Not sure if the DAW has to run in Rosetta to run plugins on Rosetta...

From what I've seen, DAWs that support AU format generally support Intel AUs when running as native M1. But those same DAWs don't typically support Intel VSTs unless running under Rosetta. I believe that's because Apple provides a mechanism for bridging Intel AU plugins, so it's less work to support.
Bitwig is the one exception, where it can use Intel VSTs while running as native M1. That's probably enabled by its sandboxing system.
Once Reason goes native, I predict it will still need to run in Rosetta mode in order to use Intel VSTs.dvdrtldg wrote: ↑17 Dec 2021Question: how does Rosetta work with plugins? Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised, but I'm not counting on it if others DAWs are anything to go by.
So yeah, it's something to keep in mind when buying plugins.

Thanks! Such a creative tool. Really like to scramble field recordings with that for an organic basement of a track
If Reason M1 update doesn’t allow for noncompliant Vst’s via Rosetta shouldn’t you still be able to open older projects w R11? Or even pre M1 updated R12 for some time to come? 11 runs parallel to 12 anyway but I’d want to try keeping 2 R12’s onboard if that’s possible.

Either way this stuff is disconcerting and highlights the thin ice we hang out on every day as opposed to bagpipe players for example.

Anyone think it’s worth starting g some kind of online petition to try n get iZotope to keep trash going?
Aside from M1 support I’d love to be able to drag the device icons into whatever order you like.
Whatever. It’s just that almost everyone I know loves trash. There has to be a user base large enough to communicate to them.

The trouble with Intel plug-ins on Apple silicon is that a single app can't mix instruction sets. In other words, an Intel process can't load and run Apple silicon code and vice versa.
Right now, R11 runs Intel VSTs just fine because R11 is also running Intel code. I expect a similar thing is true of R12.
If RS were to take the most straightforward path to letting Reason run natively on Apple silicon, it would lose the ability to run Intel VSTs.
A dovetail issue here is that is that at present Reason supports only VST2, and per Steinberg's current guidance VST2 will never have an Apple silicon SDK.
This implies that if RS exerted the least possible effort to make Reason run natively on Apple silicon that it wouldn't be able to run any VST. At all.
So it is not a coincidence that RS is working on VST3 support at the same time it is working on Apple silicon support. From a marketing perspective, the two things are joined at the hip because Steinberg provides an Apple silicon SDK for VST3 only.
I don't know if RS intends to support VST3 on Windows as well, but it's plausible, and if so then Windows users who've been craving VST3 support should also celebrate Apple silicon for forcing RS' hand.
I don't know if Trash is VST2 or VST3 (or both). I also don't know if Trash can run natively on Apple silicon, which would require effort on Izotope's part which Steinberg has merely enabled.

It can’t run native and as it stands it never will. iZotope has cut it loose.
Hence my idea of petitioning iZotope

Can't believe I got this plugin free a while back. It's the best distortion plugin I've used. Ohmicide is another great one. Of course Reason's Scream is solid as well

Yeah, it's a bummer that Izotope has basically discontinued Trash 2 (even though they still sell it ).
At least in Ableton, you can use the AU version of Trash 2 from the M1-native version of Live, because Apple's AU system includes Rosetta. But of course that's not going to last forever, as some version of MacOS in the future will inevitably discontinue Rosetta.
To my mind the convoluting module is the important part. I can love w other types of distortion dynamics eq.
Anyway I just wonder what it would take to change their mind(s). There is almost def a market for trash 3.
I mean, has anyone ever succeeded with such a petition?
