A lot of the best Hip Hop and RnB ever made to this date was made with technology that is completely inferior to what we have today. And just because Drake daddy use Reason don't mean shyt because it's a lot of bullshiet music on the radio. Being on the radio or in the studio working don't mean shyt to me cuz I'll battle any mf in hip hop, R&B , Soul and I don't put any music out professionally. I got beats from 2015 that'll kill the bullshiet on the radio. My only problem was mixing and I've figured that out.

I'ma turn my link back on and I do have a YouTube with battle beats with the same name from years ago I'm way better now.

It all depends on what kind of music one is making and what is needed for the whole process of going from idea to finished track. For electronic music styles Reason is one of the best solutions in the market - you have synths, sequencers, effects + you can import and record audio, slice it, stretch it, correct pitch and so on.Goriila Texas wrote: ↑12 Jan 2022Reason is far behind other DAWs yes you can make music with it but you’re working harder than other DAW users it’s not even debatable. It might work differently than other DAW's, but this world would be boring if every DAW worked the same way.

Today we have obsession over tools and not music itself. Most DAW complaints are from folks who praise shitty techniques like layering 150 tracks to make a kick drum or call every sub bass sine wave an 808.

Keep the faith. Reason is one viral Tik Tok video away from becoming cool again.

I find it the opposite, I love using Reason vs the other DAWs. The workflow and feel to it is a lot better.Goriila Texas wrote: ↑12 Jan 2022Reason is far behind other DAWs yes you can make music with it but you’re working harder than other DAW users it’s not even debatable. adfielding wrote: ↑12 Jan 2022I'm not going to lie, I've always kind of liked that outsider perception of Reason as something used by weirdos haha! That said, there's definitely been a perception shift from Reason being this cool, slick new thing from the earlier versions to how it's seen now. A frequent comment during that shift was that Reason is more of a toy than a serious platform for music production, and from a personal point of view I've never had a huge problem with that assessment - I've always had fun using Reason, and if you can't write something good with it then I'd say that says more about the user than Reason itself.
But yeah, I've never really seen the point in the snobbish attitudes certain folks have towards what other people happen to use. It reminds me of when I see people using amazing looking setups to create music that sounds like it was made using a bunch of free VSTs from 2001 - it's this performative obsession rather than any genuine interest in using what works best, and I get the feeling that a lot of people really buy into that for some reason.

Every tool has its strengths and weaknesses. There are things you can easily do in Reason that are hard to do in other DAWs, and vice versa.Goriila Texas wrote: ↑12 Jan 2022...but I do scratch my head at the rigorous workflow y’all choose to make music in.
I don't feel that Reason is what's holding me back, and I just love the cable-paradigm.
This reminds me a bit of my past hobby with digital photography... People obsessing over megapixels, L-lenses, buying extremely expensive gear, and then shooting JPEGs in auto-mode, wondering why I get better image quality from my baseline equipment.
It's not the pots and pans that makes a great chef.

Saying Reason is to other DAWs like a spoon is to a shovel is a bit OTT. I've done feature comparisons and a *lot* of the important stuff is there. The fundamentals work fine. But just fine. They could work better. But at no point in the creative process do I feel like it's an unduly large amount of work. It's more like constant niggling frustration that a handful of very small but important QOL improvements are perpetually a .x update away. Does it irritate me? Little bit. Does it stop me making music? Absolutely not.
And few if any DAWs have it exactly right either. Case in point, I loaded up Live to see how I felt writing in that again. Gave up after 5 minutes when I realised there's a bug that causes note-on events when receiving note-off if you're recording into a clip and auto quantise is on. It's been there since the last beta and no-one's fixed it yet.
So then I loaded up Cubase and started getting frustrated at how fiddly it is to do internal re-sampling compared to Reason. In the end I just gave up and went back to Reason.
They all got quirks.

I'm still chortling over the spoon and shovel analogy but, yeah, maybe it's a bit harsh. So what do we replace the spoon with?chimp_spanner wrote: ↑12 Jan 2022Saying Reason is to other DAWs like a spoon is to a shovel is a bit OTT.
A ladle?
A garden trowel?
A pooper scooper?
One of those plastic spades kids use on the beach?

The difference between a MPC user is they know the workflow on a 2000XL is outdated and none of them will argue about it. The problem with a lot Reason people is that they’re in denial about how trash the workflow is and how most things in the DAW is half arse. If someone say they make better music than me on that raggedy DAW ima say good
for you at least they are honest.

That’s cool you like Reason I’m not on a Reason Gang forum to convert people to use other DAWs. If you like Reason cool. I just don’t like when musicians who use other DAWs complain about Reason shortcomings they are being called snobby even though most make valid comments.
