So here we are, starting a new immense project. My new year's resolution for 2022 is to write 100 songs this year (2 each week, and 2 weeks off) or more, if I feel like it. This is the very first song for this project.

Further, the first song each week will be based on the oldest project I have yet to use, and the second will be based on the newest such project.

And we're starting off with:

So you hear that little melody that accompanies my acoustic guitar from the very beginning? It stays quite prominent for the rest of the song too, but basically, that was the germ of inspiration I latched on to. It's from my earliest unused project file, dated August 9th 2002. Everything else was written and recorded today.

(Am, Em, Dm, E)

Oh joy to the world
Is it yet time to play?
Will this story unfold?
Let us all be gay

Be gay
Do crime
Not just a meme
Also a rhyme
Be what may
I wrote this song
Which means
The meme can not be wrong

Clap on two
Clap on four
Clap for those who came before

Stomp on one
Stomp on three
Stop, express who you want to be

I need some cymbals
spread them all around
Now with that bass
Let's hit the ground

Give me some cowbell
No such thing as too much
I need more cowbell
Let's hear that nasty crunch

Weren't we promised great big things?
Flying cars, friends with wings
An end to strife and joy for all
We would never lose control

But nothing changed, there was no event
The years came, the decades went
We stayed here, we didn't know
There was even anywhere to go

We knew of space and worlds beyond
But we could barely cross a pond
We drained our lakes and burned our trees
We probably doomed ourselves to freeze

Since about the time of our very birth
We weren't kind to planet earth
With plans to leave and propogate
Came the time for the great debate

The voices of the world scream
"Is this right for me?"
And the people of the world dream
"Is it meant to be?"

Are the people and the world at odds?
Do we need to make up new gods?
Or should we stay just as we are?
On this little rock among the stars

Hands down
Guns drawn
Triggers pulled
One will be gone
The duel took another life

Eyes damp
Heads bowed
No one willing
To make a sound
They fear the gun just as they fear the knife

If the unicorn came to graze
Or so you thought through your haze
You don't just ride it buck nude
Get permission, don't be rude

If the fairies come by to dance
Don't mistake it for romance
Unless they ask you for your lust
Enthused consent is a must

And if the maenads sing your song
That's no excuse to do them wrong
Be thankful, be polite
Lest they shower you with plight

The same for people, treat them well
If you don't, you go straight to hell
You don't pass go, you don't collect
You deserve the endless punishment

Enthused consent is not just right, it's fucking hot
If you don't have it and persist, go and rot

I wanted to be a musician,
I wanted to be a magician,
I wanted to be a reviewer,
I wanted to be an interviewer,

I wanted to be a debater,
I wanted to be an arbitrator,
I wanted to be a statistician,
I wanted to dispel superstition,

I wanted to design amusement parks,
I wanted to be loved, and to feel sparks,
I wanted to be great at it all,
I wanted to fly before I could crawl.

But most of all, there's one thing I wanted to be,
Most of all, I wanted to be me.

And while all the above is certainly true...
Being omnipotent would be nice too.

Have you got a story for me?
Or something you want me to see?
Is there a moral at the end?
Will I learn to understand?
(Let's pretend)

Can I have another story, please?
To warm my heart as I freeze
Challenge me, engage my mind
Let me close my eyes and unwind

Anyways, that's the 8th and probably last song for this month, and with the zero interest it appears to generate here, this will likely be the last post to this thread. The project will certainly continue for the rest of the year, but I see no point to continue posting it here.
