if you've ever needed to add a bit of high end to a vocal track to get it to sit right in a dense mix, you've probably also noticed it can create a new problem--excessive sibilance. then you've got to mess around with a de-esser, often having to automate settings because it doesn't always do what you want, or worse, spend time tediously automating the volume of the sibilance in your track manually.

Clarity Anti-Ess is essentially a Channel EQ that has independent amounts of boost for the main signal and the sibilant signal. so if you need to boost the vocal by 8 db at 4khz, without the sibilance poking icepicks through your eardrums, you can do that with the Clarity Anti-Ess combinator.

here's a quick walkthrough showing how it works:

of course this doesn't negate the need for de-essing in all cases--if your vocal is excessively sibilant to begin with, you'll still want to de-ess. Clarity Anti-Ess is really just meant to prevent you from creating a problem that's not already there, or from making it worse, if it is. you'll have better results even with a de-esser if you're not making the sibilance worse in the first place.

Clarity Anti-Ess requires two third-party Rack Extensions:
- Selig De-Esser (this one is paid, but well worth it)
- DLD Technology CV Meter (free)

here's the combi:

Selig De-Esser can be purchased here: https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/rack ... g-deesser/

DLD Technology CV Meter can be obtained here: https://www.reasonstudios.com/shop/rack ... /cv-meter/

What a neat concept! I recorded some vocals today which I'm still mixing so I'll try it on them later

Dude this combi is great  Really helped my vocals cut through the mix but kept the sibilance smooth.
Definitely gonna start using this in future projects

Players are to MIDI what synthesizers are to waveforms.
