Malmstrom question - Index
When Malstrom's Motion is set to zero and sweep through the index, this is similar to sweeping through a wavetable

Like a playhead
is that phase randomisation in Vital Synth? or any idea how to do that in vital
James Bernard did a great job explaining Malstrom. I really miss that guy. If I remember correctly, something horrible happened to his family. I hope he is doing well.
Well, this is not the Vital forum, you can find it here:

But just for you, here is the answer: It is similar to sweeping through a wavetable.

Simply put, the Index slider in Mal sweeps the playhead through the wavetable, just as the arrowified slider does in Vital.
Mal is a Wavetable synth. Vital is too but I think their internal process may be slightly different. Therefore what happens in Mal may not happen exactly the same in Vital, at least not with the "apparently" corresponding knob.
Wavetables are a different form of OSC from a pure generated synth. It is a form of sampler more often than not - a bit like Grains (which is what Mal really is). This means that Phase Mod (PWM) is not a thing as you can't actually change the form of a sample. You can only play it back and stretch it about some.
However, many modern synths are actually Additive engines that take things in, deconstruct them, reconstruct them, and then let you do all manner of things to the **now** pure generated OSC forms. Some are open about that fact, many are not lest they scare people away who don't think they like Additive synths.
This is a look into Vital I made for HigherHz which may cover some of what you are looking for (but TBH I didn't really get into Wavetables much as they rarely turn me on):

It moves through the wavetable. If you move it you'll hear different waveforms. You can set it wherever you like, or you can modulate it, e.g. with an LFO, for interesting timbral shifts.
Not exactly.
Maelstrom is a hybrid granular/wavetable.
So the index selects the wavetable, while reach wavetable contains a grain that completes a cycle within the grain.
This sight departure from traditional granular synthesis was its killer feature at the time
