A social media hiatus & restart

Been away from keyboard? Never! But I fancied my 88 note controller and my D-50. Back on Facebook now so please search for Bitley and share the love. I don't even know how to find specific URLs anymore in the rapidly changing Facebook world. As soon I have time I will add in lots of content but for starters I need people. So welcome!

As a parent I am forced to look at TikTok. My kids come every two minutes sayin “look at this video,, look at this video.” When I finally blow up and tell them just how uninterested I am and that they should stop it they start sending me the links via sms. I hate TikTok.

What's crazy is that even Instagram has started to fall out of fashion. It's right now at a sweet spot where it has both young and old users but when you go below mid-teens it's all about TikTok and Snapchat

I was talking more about general communication whereas TikTok is more for short snippet video's. Not sure the length but they tend to be less than 30 seconds I think.

I stopped using social media almost 2 years ago - other than the few Reason/beta testing-related facebook groups and work-related groups I must be part of. But I haven't posted to my public wall or scrolled through my "newsfeed" for almost 2 years now. And I'm so much happier now than I was when I was regularly wasting time on facebook. Studies have shown that social media not affects our attention span, but also affects our happiness. Not to mentions all the nefarious BS the owners of those sites are up to, collecting and selling our data. Tiktok could be the worst of the lot, as far as attention span, dopamine hits, instant gratification affects are concerned (also as far as tracking/collecting/predicting human behavior is concerned).

I found this short documentary to be pretty informative. Thoughts?
