It's not always a Reason issue.

Problems and issues can easily arise from some other installed software.
A good role is to keep the DAW computer as clean from other installed software as possible.
Remember to uninstall old unused programs and drivers etc.
Worst case is using the DAW computer for running games.
Some times it's also tempting to install a nice little freeware program.
But be aware.
The more 3 party installed software, the more chances for some background processing
could interfere with the DAW software.
Don't expect programs work together if the venders haven't approved this.
You properly know this already but I am writing this because this occasionally seems to
be the real issue.

far from always though
if in Reason's case it was not using the GPU before it was not affected by what ever was using the GUP in the background before R12 but now it might be affected because something that is using the GUP in the background. SO it can still be caused by some other software
At least here I´ve always run a lot of games, 3D-, audio, video, photoediting software, communication + system tools along Reason, no issues.
Not saying it couldn´t be the case with other people, just pointing out it´s perfectly possible having one system handling everything.

Same. Not games but i run a few other things for sure. Used to be I'd run em at the same time but Reason graphics started getting twitchy at some point if there were more than a few things going on.moofi wrote: ↑25 Sep 2021At least here I´ve always run a lot of games, 3D-, audio, video, photoediting software, communication + system tools along Reason, no issues.

Actually I am also running games on the same computer.
But I am then booting and running the games on an other SSD.
I won't take that chance on my DAW SSD.

There's also the case of people running cracked plugins, and then shout at the top of their lungs that shits broken and crashes. FU to those batch
It's serious bullshit that you can't use a game rig for Reason. If you have proper hardware, that is not a problem at all.Biolumin3sc3nt wrote: ↑25 Sep 2021There's also the case of people running cracked plugins, and then shout at the top of their lungs that shits broken and crashes. I agree with this to a large extent, although I have no issues running Steam on my machine -- when I choose to. The games I play are rather old school anyway -- Civilization, Catan Universe and the like, But I don't let steam startup automagically. Other than that, it is strictly a music production machine.
The task manager is your friend in this case. Learn it, know it because it is the window inside your PC's innards. That and Performance Monitor where you can really get down into the weeds if needs be. I recently purchased the Izotope Elements suite for $29(!), but my machine immediately experienced issues included random reboots. Plus both Reaper and Cakewalk dumped to the desktop every time I used these products. I asked for and was given a refund -- but using these tools I found out basically why this occurred.
The long and short of it is that there is a LOT of stuff happening under the hood and blaming the application, in this case Reason, may be premature without checking into it a bit more.

Kinda agree since I break all of those "rules". Unfortunately most problems arise as we are victims of the (d)evolving) OS provided by MS and Apple. If you make money of your productions I can understand people keeping their machines as lean as possible. Let's not also dismiss faults of DAW developers.fullforce wrote: ↑25 Sep 2021SoundObjects wrote: ↑25 Sep 2021Problems and issues can easily arise from some other installed software.

You know, I read stuff like this and I wonder how in the world Elvis, The Beatles and the like ever managed to finish an album, let alone sell a lot of them.

While we are on topic. IF you dont know this one:
Latest version: LatencyMon v 7.00
https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon
Atari 1040ST | R11 Suite 🡭 R12 | i7 | RME
I have Latencymon and my rig passes with flying colors. (i7-8700k CPU, 32gb RAM, Windows 10 with many things turned off, NVidia GTX 980Ti GPU, 1T M.2 NVMe SSD card) But it's some Kontakt instruments that gives me crackling and DSP problems mostly. I know my rig is powerful enough but still have to figure out why certain plugins do not play nice.
This is one of these threads I expected on the Steam Community forums making excuses for broken games. It's everyone's fault except for the developers. I've had plenty of DAWs and they always seem to work fine. Often the wise people wait for a few updates before upgrading.
That's how to do it. Just wait until the bugs get fixed - or, if you like, buy now at the intro price and then keep using the older version until the bugs get fixed. The problem isn't really DAWs or developers, it's the attitude of wanting everything RIGHT NOW and then crying like a baby when your new toy isn't what you expected
